With much excitement and anticipation, the 17th Annual Literary Luncheon is set to take place in Nashville, TN, at the Music City Center’s Davidson Ballroom. Co-chaired by distinguished personalities, The Honorable Karen Johnson and Dr. Candra Clariette, the event is hoped to make history.
This year’s luncheon happens under the theme “Celebrating our Stories…Empowering our Future“. Recognizing that storytelling is an enriching fiber that maintains legacy while ushering the future, the organizers hope to inspire young black women into taking leadership roles in society.
The keynote speaker for this year’s luncheon is none other than ReShonda Tate, a bestselling author of over 50 books, and a celebrated journalist. Her success as an accomplished Hollywood star who has directed films produced by well-known icons such as TD Jakes, Regina King, and Queen Latifah is emblematic of her potent message of faith, diversity, and inclusion. Her life story is bound to inspire young black women’s morale.
In the spirit of unity, scholarship, and community development, young girls affiliated with the Lighting the Path for Girls program, affectionately known as the “Jewels“, are celebrated and prepared for the next chapters of their lives. It is a tradition that nurtures young girls’ growth into early womanhood while equipping them with the confidence to thrive in their respective paths.
The “Lighting the Path for Girls” program allows young girls to transition from uncertainty to a place of confidence and direction. Through this transformative process, participants acquire the strength and boldness required to dream big and reach high. The mentors—ranging from politicians and entrepreneurs to scholars and authors—work cohesively to envision and propel the “Jewels” towards success.
Through resources, experiences, and workshops, the Jewels are equipped with the necessary tools for success. They learn the importance of hard work, consistency, persistence, and maintaining a good moral compass. In Tate’s powerful words, “You don’t go to the other side hoping the grass is greener. You water the lawn you have“; this implies nourishing and embracing the opportunities at hand.
Since its foundation in 2004, the Les Gemmes, Inc., Nashville Chapter has witnessed numerous “Jewels” grow into college graduates, armed forces members, entrepreneurs, and community changemakers. This year’s Literary Luncheon promises to continue enriching this honorable tradition.
Besides enriching talks by prominent personalities, the annual luncheon also hosts several talented authors from around the country.
