Alleged Thief Notorious for Targeting Intoxicated Patrons Arrested in Downtown Nashville
A man known for allegedly stealing wallets, credit cards, and phones from bar patrons in downtown Nashville has been apprehended. Reports indicate that this putative criminal was adept at targeting inebriated individuals, relieving them of their valuable items under the cover of their impaired consciousness.

According to the police, the caught individual was adept at lifting these items and absconding without detection. His sophisticated operation didn’t stop at mere theft. Once he had the stolen items, he would then transfer money from the victims’ accounts to his personal Cash App account, leaving an incriminating digital footprint behind.
The Eventual Arrest
Investigators from the Metro Nashville Police worked relentlessly to trace these digital traces, which eventually led them to the suspect, a 32-year-old male known as Joshua Cloyd. The suspect was identified as a person of interest following an investigative lead started after a theft on November 4, 2023, when a man realized that his phone had been stolen, and money from his account transferred to the suspect via CashApp.
Connected Incidents
According to authorities, Cloyd had been implicated in several other similar occurrences. On another occasion in January, yet another individual realized his phone and credit cards were missing from his back pocket post a night out on Broadway, downtown Nashville. The stolen phone was used to make a withdrawal at a gas station on Trinity Lane, and shortly after, was tracked down to the Inn Town Suites, a motel also based in Madison, a suburb of Nashville.
Extensive Criminal Charges
Identification became much more convenient for investigating officers via surveillance footage and the trail left by the criminal through his CashApp account. Upon his arrest, Cloyd was booked with multiple charges that included two counts of credit card fraud, two counts of theft, and four counts of computer violation fraud. The alleged felon remains in custody, with bond set at a hefty $64,000.
