The city of Nashville rings with the news that the Nashville Symphony has named Sherry Gibbs as their newest Vice President of Communications. Gibbs, an award-winning storyteller with over 20 years in the sector, brings a wealth of experience to the role. Her previous positions include executive and senior leadership roles at esteemed organizations such as Nashville General Hospital, GEHA, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City, Children’s Mercy, Ceasars Entertainment, and Prairie Dog.

The Role Ahead for Gibbs at Nashville Symphony

As the new Vice President of Communications for the Nashville Symphony, Gibbs will be responsible for creating both local and national visibility for the organization. Her responsibilities will span across supporting the institution’s branding, revenue goals, and audience development efforts, all while curating communications across digital, published, and in-person platforms to help tell the story of the Nashville Symphony.

Leadership’s Faith in Gibbs

Alan D. Valentine, the Symphony’s President and CEO, expressed his faith in Gibbs’ abilities. “Sherry’s extensive knowledge of marketing and communications, backed by her passion for the arts, will be an incredible asset to shaping the current and future story of the Nashville Symphony,” he said. Valentine also applauded Gibbs’ personal and professional contribution to the Nashville community, cementing her pivotal role in the senior leadership team of the Nashville Symphony.

At Prairie Dog, Gibbs recently served as senior vice president and managing director, leading marketing and communications strategies for major healthcare organizations nationwide. She was instrumental in negotiating and creating GEHA’s multi-year partnership with the Kansas City Chiefs and received several prestigious awards for her exceptional PR and strategic communication skills.

Expressing admiration for the Nashville Symphony and its diverse programming, Gibbs said, “I’m excited to join the team, share my love for the arts, and help bring the Symphony’s programming, community and educational initiatives, and mission to inspire through classical music to as many people as possible.

Gibbs’ Education and Community Contributions

Gibbs is highly educated, holding a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Business Administration in Marketing from Duke University. Not just academically inclined, Gibbs has a heart for contributing to her community. During her time in Kansas City, she served on the boards of The Black Repertory Theatre of Kansas City, Kansas City Friends of Alvin Ailey, and Girl Scouts of NE Kansas and NW Missouri.
