Nashville Comes Together to Remember Alyssa Lokits

Nashville, Tenn. — The warmth of community spirit filled the air as dozens came together for a memorial run dedicated to Alyssa Lokits, a beloved member of the Nashville community tragically taken from us just a week ago. Alyssa was murdered while she was out exercising on the Mill Creek Greenway, an incident that has left her family and friends heartbroken.

Honoring a Remarkable Life

In a heartfelt tribute, the memorial run aimed to honor Alyssa’s legacy and the incredible impact she had during her 34 years. For the first time, her family spoke out to share memories of their cherished loved one, choosing to remain private for the cameras but deeply engaging with those around them.

Brandon Lokits, Alyssa’s brother, expressed the profound loss he feels but also highlighted the essence of his sister’s character. He shared how Alyssa, a dedicated Vanderbilt graduate with a PhD in Neuroscience, was not only brilliant but also had a heart full of kindness. She actively contributed her time and skills to the Mary Parrish Center, an organization that supports victims of domestic violence and interpersonal violence. “Her track record should serve as a reminder for people to be better,” said Brandon. “It should drive the community to be better, for us to be better because that is what she would want.”

A Community United in Grief

The memorial run took place on the very same greenway where the tragedy unfolded, making it a poignant moment for all participants. Jessica Ketner, the organizer of the event, shared her personal connection to the location, stating, “We have got to stand together and do something about it. Right now, the best moment is to honor her and finish this run.” With every step taken on the trail, participants felt a sense of duty to uphold Alyssa’s memory and commitment to making the community a safer place.

After crossing the finish line, many runners came together to offer prayers and lay dozens of stunning flowers at the memorial site, creating a beautiful, colorful tribute in memory of Alyssa. People stood together in solemn reflection, enveloped by a sense of unity in their grief.

Continuing Alyssa’s Legacy

The family and friends of Alyssa are also encouraging the community to contribute to the Mary Parrish Center through donations. This initiative aims to ensure that Alyssa’s legacy continues through the important work of supporting victims of violence. By contributing, individuals can be part of honoring her memory, ensuring that her spirit of helping others lives on.

As the day wound down, it became clear that this memorial run was not just about mourning a life lost but about igniting change within the community. Friends, family, and even strangers united to remember a woman who embodied intelligence, compassion, and service. The pain of her absence is immense, but the love and respect shown in her memory will undoubtedly pave the way for a more connected and compassionate Nashville.

Looking Ahead

With this memorial run marking the beginning of a healing journey for Alyssa’s family and the local community, it serves as a reminder of the strength that comes from unity and support. The hope is that more people will join hands in ensuring Nashville remains a safe and welcoming place for everyone. The community is being called not just to remember Alyssa but to be inspired by her, to strive for a world where kindness and love prevail over violence.
