In a move aimed at maintaining peace and tranquility, homestay booking giant Airbnb has announced its decision to clamp down on disruptive holiday parties by blocking certain bookings. The company is set to deploy advanced technology capable of examining various booking aspects and identifying those posing a higher risk for disruptive revelry.
The distinctive system by Airbnb, scrutinizes diverse elements ranging from the nature of the listing being booked, the duration of the stay, the mileage between the listing and the guest’s hometown, and the proximity of the booking to the actual date. Furthermore, the system considers these parameters to decide whether a particular reservation warrants blocking.
Airbnb has explicitly forbidden disruptive parties at its properties; nonetheless, the platform acknowledges a visible surge in such bookings during the Memorial Day and Fourth of July weekends. This increased activity informs the company’s decision to keep a tighter grip on potential party bookings during these periods.
Last year, in Tennessee alone, roughly 1,200 people were dissuaded from reserving entire homes over the Memorial Day and Fourth of July weekends. In Nashville alone, an estimated 400 people faced this deterrent. Nationwide, over 67,500 prospective guests were blocked from making bookings.
Per its proactive approach to alleviating any anticpated disturbance, Airbnb is making complimentary noise sensors accessible to hosts. The company is cooperating with law enforcement and putting additional measures in place to preempt any issues before they arise.
Guests who are refrained from reserving an entire home will have the option to book either a private room or a hotel room via Airbnb. This situation also derives its relevance from the fact that the host is more likely to be present on-site to monitor the situation.
The move by Airbnb is highly commendable and is expected to provide a respite for next-door residents from the distress caused by out-of-hand party-goers. While the frankness of this policy might surprise some, it is a part of Airbnb’s efforts to ensure that their community respects the tranquility of neighborhoods and delivers a pleasant experience to all users.
