Nashville, Tenn. – If you’re traveling through Nashville International Airport (BNA) anytime soon, get ready for a delightful surprise! The airport has just kicked off its Fall/Winter Flying Solo series, an immersive art experience that’s sure to bring a sense of wonder to passengers and visitors alike. This delightful showcase of local talent will be on display until February 28, 2025, so you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy the stunning works of artists from across Tennessee.
As you stroll through the various terminals of BNA, you’ll encounter breathtaking pieces by an array of talented individuals. Featured artists include Barbara Bullard, Sean Coffey, Alan Finch, Wansoo Kim, Jennifer Luna, Anna Togrye, and Ginny Togrye. Each artist brings a unique perspective and a wealth of experience to their work, making this exhibit a must-see for art enthusiasts.
Let’s dive into what makes each artist’s work special:
Located at the Level 1, IAF Exit Waiting Area, Bullard’s “Full Transparency” features breathtaking watercolor paintings. A Franklin resident for over 45 years, she uses nostalgic objects from her life to create captivating narratives that resonate with viewers personally. Her focus on capturing the essence of light through glass in her artwork is truly remarkable.
In the same area, you can explore Sean Coffey’s vibrant mixed media works that blend urban and natural themes. Operating out of his Memphis studio, he combines metal and paint to create eye-catching pieces that speak to the relationship between city life and the wonders of nature.
With his “Epiphany” series in digital photography and mixed media, Finch can be found nearby. He has a rich history of artistic expression that spans decades and is now embracing abstract nature photography that is both visually stunning and thought-provoking.
Over on Concourse A, across from Gate 2, Wansoo Kim showcases his beautiful ceramic sculptures through his exhibit titled “Within Me”. Originally from South Korea, Kim’s work melds intricate design with profound meaning, reflecting his journey as both an educator and artist.
At the Level 1 IAF Exit Waiting Area, immerse yourself in Jennifer Luna’s wood block prints through her piece “Transcending the Surface”. Her prints tell whimsical stories that connect humanity with the natural world, encouraging viewers to reflect on their own relationship with nature.
On Concourse D, near Gate 2, Anna Togrye’s “Impressions of Nature” sculptures celebrate the beauty of wildlife. Using animal shapes crafted from a mix of materials, Togrye draws inspiration from biology, connecting viewers to the environment in a meaningful way.
Lastly, Ginny Togrye presents “The Science of Creativity” near Gates 3 and 5 on Concourse D. Her mixed media work intriguingly combines scientific elements and artistic creativity, pushing the boundaries of traditional sculpture and painting to create truly memorable pieces.
The Arts at the Airport program is dedicated to showcasing the region’s visual and performing arts, funded by the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority and supported by the Tennessee Arts Commission. The initiative offers a unique platform for artists, and the airport itself was designed to incorporate art exhibits that enhance the travel experience.
With an economic impact exceeding $9.9 billion in 2019 and supporting over 76,000 jobs in the region, BNA is not just an airport but a cultural hub that represents the best of Middle Tennessee.
So, whether you’re about to embark on an exciting journey or welcoming family and friends here in Nashville, take a moment to enjoy the artistry that surrounds you at BNA—it’s part of what makes this city such a vibrant place!
