A Career Brightened by Hits

Buddy’s songwriting career is nothing short of impressive. He penned countless hits that became anthems for fans and performers alike. Some of his most notable contributions include the lively tune “Watermelon Crawl,” famously performed by Tracy Byrd in 1994. Other chart-toppers featured his clever lyrics, such as “Fall in Love” and “Whatever It Takes” by Kenny Chesney, released in the mid-90s. Brock also had his finger on the pulse of holiday cheer with the classic “Honky Tonk Christmas” by Alan Jackson in 1992.

Further showcasing his talents, Brock collaborated extensively with Aaron Tippin during the early 90s, creating hits like “You’ve Got to Stand for Something” and the catchy “There Ain’t Nothing Wrong with the Radio.” His partnership with Tippin carved a niche for both artists within the country music genre, highlighting Brock’s versatility and creativity.

From Small Town to Music City

Born as William Calhoun Brock Jr. in Greenwood, South Carolina, Buddy made an earth-shaking decision when he relocated to Nashville in 1990 to pursue his dreams of songwriting. His dedication led to a 17-year stint as a staff writer for Acuff-Rose/Sony Publishing. His journey was fueled by a passion for music and a determination to make it in the industry, culminating in numerous collaborations with stars like George Jones, Gary Allan, and Charley Pride.

A Life Well-Lived

As the news of his passing spread, it became clear that Buddy Brock’s impact on the musicians and fans alike was profound. He was not only celebrated for his artistic prowess but also remembered for his warm personality and friendly spirit. Survived by his wife of 47 years, Robyn Alexander Brock, along with a daughter, Rebecca Dawn McKinney, a son, Caleb Reid Brock, and four grandkids, Buddy’s legacy will undoubtedly live on through his family and his music.

Beyond his immediate family, Buddy leaves behind a loving brother, Roger “Rody” Brock, along with a vast network of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins who will cherish the memories they shared with him.

Celebration of Life and Tribute

The community and fans have come together to plan a heartfelt farewell for the esteemed songwriter. Services are set to be held at the Mt. Juliet First Baptist Church on Saturday, February 1, 2025, with visitation beginning at 1:00 PM before the service at 3:00 PM. In addition, a Celebration of Life event is on the horizon for a later date, allowing friends and fans to honor Brock’s incredible contributions to country music.

Those wishing to honor Buddy’s memory in a special way can donate to a charity of their choice in lieu of flowers, showcasing the kind spirit he imparted during his life.

With arrangements managed by Bond Memorial Chapel, the music world, friends, and family are reminded how much Buddy Brock meant to all, as they reflect on his life and legacy, which will never be forgotten.
