Nashville – Cirque du Soleil and Universal Music Group Nashville are embarking on an unparalleled journey to pay tribute to stalwarts of country music while concurrently ushering in contemporary talents and the ever-evolving genre through an electrifying theater production, Songblazers – A Journey Into Country Music.
Fans are invited to witness inspiring acrobatics, awe-inducing aerial stunts, remarkable demonstrations of human strength, and a soundtrack brimming with the works of artistic brilliance. The sheer skill displayed by the performers of Cirque du Soleil will undoubtedly fascinate the audience as they get lost in the harmonies of treasured country classics. This unique performance will be showcased at Andrew Jackson Hall at TPAC from July 2 until July 28 and will continue its tour in seven other cities thereafter.
At its core, Songblazers is a tribute to the art of storytelling and a testament to the profound passion for music. Daniel Ross, Cirque du Soleil’s Director of Creation, aspired to compose a flawless blend of the vivid imagery encapsulated in country songs and the astounding spectacle of the circus.
Songblazers, under the direction and writing of Amy Tinkham, trails the odyssey of two characters as they navigate their way to country music fame. “Making a show about country music is a massively daunting task owing to its immense scale. My approach was to delve deeply into the history and creation of songs, which form the essence of country music.”, commented Tinkham. The sincerity and honesty reflected through storytelling are the very charms of the genre and hence, form the very backbone of Songblazers’ narrative.
In alignment with their objective of saluting the timeless aspects of country music, Cirque du Soleil chose to collaborate with contemporary country artist, Sam Williams, grandson of the country music pioneer, Hank Williams, and the son of outlaw legend Hank Williams Jr. He has contributed an original song to the show aptly named, ‘Carnival Heart,’ which blends raw, heart-rending honesty and vulnerability with a dash of empathy.
The production of Songblazers, overflowing with emotion, love, and legacy, pledges to provide the audiences with an experience that they are certain to cherish.
