As the holiday season quickly approaches, the city of Clarksville, TN is gearing up for a heartwarming initiative that brings the community together to help families in need. The Give Thanks program, organized through the United Way of Greater Nashville, has become a cornerstone of compassion and support for local families struggling with food insecurity during this festive time.
For several years now, individuals, workplaces, and local groups have come together to create boxes filled with everything a family needs for a delicious holiday meal. These boxes are not just a thoughtful gift; they are lifelines for many families facing tough financial challenges. This year, the United Way began delivering these Give Thanks boxes to the Greater Clarksville Region, expanding the effort significantly. Now, anyone can participate in making a difference right in their own community.
The joy of this initiative is not limited to just Clarksville. Families within nine counties—including Cheatham, Davidson, Dickson, Hickman, Houston, Montgomery, Robertson, Stewart, and Williamson—will benefit from these generous donations. The holidays can be a financially taxing time; many families struggle with their food budget, and the cost of a traditional holiday feast can be overwhelming.
Statistics show us just how significant this can be. Currently, public assistance programs provide an average of $10.81 a meal for a family of four. This means that the average cost for a typical holiday dinner, which is around $85, is quite daunting, being roughly six times what’s available for a single meal. With this in mind, the Give Thanks program aims to ease that financial burden, allowing families to celebrate without the stress of budgeting for a holiday meal.
From November 4 to November 8, between the hours of 10 AM and 3 PM, the United Way of the Greater Clarksville Region will be accepting boxes for this generous cause. This is a perfect opportunity for residents to drop off food items and other essential items to assist families in need. Whether you’re part of a team, a local organization, or just an individual with a big heart, your contributions can make a substantial impact.
On November 12, from 12 PM to 1:30 PM, volunteers will distribute the meal boxes to various partner agencies in the region, ensuring that help reaches those who need it most. Clarksville Urban Ministries, Manna Cafe Ministries, and Bethesda Community Mission are just a few of the organizations working hard to get these meals to families in need.
