Nashville’s Cobra Bar Incident Leaves Band Members Injured but Unbroken

Nashville, Tennessee — A night that started with the excitement of a concert turned into a scene no one could have anticipated at the Cobra Bar in East Nashville. The band No Cure was enjoying a warm reception after their performance when they became involved in a chaotic incident that left two of their members hospitalized.

A Great Show Takes a Dark Turn

Lead singer Blaythe Steuer shared how thrilled he was to perform in Nashville, a city close to his heart and home. “I was very pleasantly surprised and having a great time. Nashville is close to home, so I had a lot of friends there,” Steuer explained. Unfortunately, the evening took a sudden, shocking twist. “It was great until, you know, the stabbing.”

An unexpected fight broke out in the bar, which escalated quickly. Steuer recounted the events leading up to the incident, saying a stranger had punched one of his friends. In the heat of the moment, bassist Jake Murnane jumped in to try to break it up. But moments later, the situation turned dangerous when the attacker allegedly brandished a knife.

Injuries and Triage

While Steuer didn’t initially see the weapon, he felt the impact when the assailant started swinging it. “I look down and I’m looking at my pants leg and I’m spurting,” he recalled, revealing that the knife had *made contact* with his femoral artery. Both members of the band quickly found themselves in a dire situation that required immediate medical intervention.

After the attack, the bandmates were rushed to a local hospital. Murnane suffered a large cut across his chest, while Steuer’s injuries were just as severe, requiring staples and stitches to treat the deep laceration. “Not to be dramatic, but without medical attention, if I was like somewhere remote, I would’ve probably died,” Steuer admitted solemnly.

Justice Served

Authorities quickly got involved, and the suspect was identified as James Smith. After fleeing the scene, he discarded the knife across the street, where police apprehended him shortly after the incident. Steuer even added a surprising twist, mentioning that “his kid reached out to us through Instagram, saying, ‘I’m so sorry. That’s my dad that got you guys. He’s a bad guy.’”

Moving Forward

Despite the traumatic experience, Steuer and Murnane did not allow the incident to derail their passion for music. Remarkably, just a day after their harrowing night in the hospital, the band was back on the road and set to perform in Alabama. “I do not get nervous,” Steuer said, showing his determination. “This is my life’s work now. I love it.”

Of course, medical bills are a reality they now face, and the band is seeking support from their fans. “The best way to help us with those medical bills is to check out our shows,” Steuer encouraged. In addition to their performances, the band is also selling merchandise to help offset the costs of their treatment.

At the Heart of Nashville

Steuer emphasized that he doesn’t hold the Cobra Bar responsible for the attack, noting that it was an unfortunate and random act of violence. For now, the community continues to rally around these artists, proving once again that music brings people together, even in times of distress.

This incident is a stark reminder of how quickly a fun night out can turn dangerous, but it also highlights the resilience of those who call Nashville home. As No Cure hits the stage again, they carry their spirits high and their stories of survival with pride.
