Career Development Month in Tennessee

In addition to honoring veterans, November is recognized as Career Development Month in Tennessee. This initiative, led by the Tennessee Department of Education, focuses on the need for students to gain essential skills for high-demand careers after finishing school.

Throughout November, Tennessee will also observe Early Postsecondary Opportunities (EPSO) Week from November 11-15 and National Apprenticeship Week from November 18-22. Schools and educators across the state are encouraged to highlight their career exploration programs on social media using specific hashtags.

Governor Bill Lee has expressed support for this initiative, stating, “During National Career Development Month, we celebrate Tennessee’s commitment to deliver the training needed for Tennesseans to thrive in a competitive workforce.” His proclamation highlights the importance of preparing students for future success in various career paths, enhancing the skills needed in today’s economy.

Educational Focus and Community Support

The Tennessee Department of Education is emphasizing the role of Career and Technical Education (CTE) and Innovative School Models (ISM) in supporting students. With an investment of over $500 million from Governor Lee and the General Assembly, these programs aim to create a more engaging and practical learning environment for students across public middle and high schools.

Commissioner Lizzette Reynolds mentioned, “Tennessee continues its commitment to providing all students with career exploration opportunities, on-the-job training, and early college opportunities, ensuring their success in college and the workforce.” This initiative is designed to empower students through real-world experiences and prepare them for high-skill, high-wage jobs.

Engagement and Future Opportunities

Community members are encouraged to participate in the discussions around career opportunities using the hashtags #CareerDevelopmentMonth, #InnovativeSchoolModelsTN, and #AcceleratingTN. This engagement will help spread awareness about the various career pathways available for students in Tennessee.

With the combination of honoring those who serve and fostering career development, Crossville is actively celebrating the contributions of both veterans and educators in shaping a promising future for its youth.
