In an unsurpassed move during Black History Month, the Tennessee Performing Arts Center (TPAC) is pleased to present Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson. This esteemed astrophysicist diminishes the complex enormity of the cosmos into something more palpable and awe-inspiring for the general public in his lecture titled “The Cosmic Perspective”.
The lecture is meticulously updated to match the rapid pace of scientific discoveries and evokes an emotionally potent view of Earth as a planet positioned in a vast empty universe. Dr. Tyson stimulates a profound influence on our viewpoints, not only about science, but also culture, politics, and life in general.
Dr. Tyson’s stellar educational background includes a BA in Physics from Harvard and a Ph.D. in Astrophysics from Columbia. He heads the esteemed Hayden Planetarium, and is also a research associate of the Department of Astrophysics at the American Museum of Natural History.
He has a needling command on the public’s fascination with the cosmos that is internationally acknowledged; so much so, that the International Astronomical Union officially named an asteroid “13123 Tyson” in his honor. His invaluable contributions to humanity have also been recognized by NASA through their ‘Distinguished Public Service Medal’.
For those dedicated to immersing further into the cosmos with Dr. Tyson, a limited number of VIP Tickets are available for his talk. These tickets include premium seating, signed poster, and a post-show meet & greet with a photo opportunity.
TPAC is also pleased to bring its audience the joy of experiencing the life and career of the legendary Tina Turner through the Broadway musical, Tina–The Tina Turner Musical. The musical will run until Sunday, February 18, 2024.
There exists no parallel to the undeniably unique voice and fiery spirit of Tina Turner. The musical celebrates her legacy as a woman who triumphed against adversity, shattering barriers to become the ‘Queen of Rock n’ Roll’. The music icon passed away at the age of 83 in 2023.
Written by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Katori Hall and directed by internationally acclaimed Phyllida Lloyd, the musical features much-loved songs and highlighting some of the most heartening moments in Tina Turner’s journey.
Naomi Rodgers graces the North American touring production as ‘Tina Turner’, delighting audiences with her powerful portrayal of the pop-culture icon. Tickets for both, the enlightening lecture by Dr. Tyson and the stirring Tina Turner’s musical, are available on the TPAC website, or over the phone.
