Nashville, Tenn. – A wild scene unfolded in our vibrant city on Wednesday when a 22-year-old man found himself in a heap of trouble after a reckless car chase led to a serious crash. This incident has certainly raised eyebrows and reminded all of us about the dangers of drinking and driving.
According to police reports, the chase began when an officer was responding to another accident that had left some people injured. With flashing lights and sirens blaring, the officer was driving down Rosa L. Parks Boulevard when he encountered a vehicle that refused to pull over. That vehicle was driven by Austin Watts, who apparently thought it would be a good idea to speed away instead of cooperating with law enforcement.
Watts didn’t just drive away casually; he took off at high speed! At one moment, the officer lost sight of Watts, which only heightened the tension of the chase. Just when it seemed like things couldn’t get any crazier, the officer arrived at the intersection of Rosa L. Parks Blvd. and the I-65 North ramp, where he found Watts’ car flipped upside down.
As the officer approached the wrecked vehicle, he spotted Watts crawling out of the driver’s seat. It’s not every day you see such an alarming situation, and the officer immediately had some questions for the young man. When asked why he was driving in such a reckless manner, Watts offered a rather concerning response. He admitted, “I’m out on bond and I’ve been drinking. I had two Twisted Teas.”
This confession opened a can of worms, as officers discovered an open container of a drink called a “Screw Driver” in the vehicle, adding to the gravity of the situation. To make matters worse, when police searched the car, they found about 15 grams of marijuana stashed away in the vehicle.
Things didn’t end there for Watts or for the passenger who had been riding with him. That passenger had to be rushed to the hospital due to possible head trauma, neck pain, and a broken finger, a sobering reminder of the potential consequences of such careless decisions behind the wheel.
Let’s not forget that as Watts was making his getaway, he also struck another vehicle, causing damage to it. This chase and subsequent crash could have had even more dire consequences if things had gone differently. Thankfully, the situation was contained without even more severe injuries.
Currently, Austin Watts is facing serious charges including vehicular assault, and he remains in police custody with a bond set at $20,000. It’s a stark reminder for everyone about the importance of responsible driving, especially when alcohol is involved. This incident could be a life-changing moment for Watts and serves as a cautionary tale for those tempted to drink and drive.
Nashville is a wonderful city, full of life and excitement. However, stories like this remind us all to make safe choices to keep our roads safe. Let’s hope that everyone involved can find their way back to better decisions and that stories like this become less of a frequent headline in our community.
