Nashville Singer-Songwriter Jett Holden Signs to Black Opry Records
Nashville has welcomed an exciting new talent into its music scene. Singer-songwriter Jett Holden has just signed with Black Opry Records, marking a significant step in his career. The announcement came alongside news of his upcoming debut album titled “The Phoenix,” set to release on October 4.
New Sounds and a New Direction
Holden’s album will feature ten tracks, with the lead single “Backwood Proclamation.” This particular song holds a special meaning for Holden, as it was co-written with his friend and fellow queer artist, Roger Dale Locklear. The track, which features talented musicians Charlie Worsham and John Osborne on electric guitar, is described as a heartfelt declaration of love. Holden shared that the song came together through a series of morning text exchanges with Locklear, who added much of the lyrics after Holden kicked off the writing.
“It feels incredible to have such talented artists on the track,” Holden mentioned. “Their participation gives strength to a song created by two queer guys. It’s a wonderful moment for us.”
Finding New Life Through Music
Holden’s journey to this point has not been without challenges. Just three years ago, he faced doubts about his music career, feeling that there was no space for creating the kind of music that could have made his younger self feel safe and accepted. During this challenging time, he came across Holly G., the founder of Black Opry, on social media. She discovered one of his powerful tracks titled “Taxidermy,” which discusses using social media as a platform to highlight issues like police brutality. This meeting reignited Holden’s passion for music, leading Holly G. to connect him with other initiatives that support emerging Black artists in the country genre.
Reflecting on his experiences, Holden said, “‘The Phoenix’ represents the rebirth of my music career. This whole journey has brought me back to my music roots, and now, everything feels within reach.”
A Unique Sound
The upcoming album opens with a newly re-recorded version of “Taxidermy.” Throughout the album, Holden explores topics that resonate deeply with his personal experiences as a Black, queer man from the South, promising listeners an array of “raw, honest confessionals.”
Acclaimed artist Will Hoge took the helm in recording the album at Cartoon Moon Recording Studio in East Nashville. Holden’s work will also showcase vocal contributions from popular musicians like Cassadee Pope and Emily Scott Robinson, who have both made their mark in the industry.
According to Hoge, “Jett’s authenticity shines through in both his writing and his singing. From the very first note, you can feel his honesty, making his music very special. It’s an exciting time to witness him gain acknowledgment.”
The Black Opry Experience
Holden’s association with Black Opry has been crucial in his development as an artist. This organization, created by Holly G., aims to celebrate and uplift Black artists in the country and roots music scene. The collective has been a supportive platform for Holden, allowing him to tour and connect with audiences.
In his own words, Holden expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to be a part of the Black Opry Revue, stating, “Being part of this movement has been vital. The support from the community has allowed me to embrace my true self and share my story through music.”
A Bright Future Ahead
As the release date for “The Phoenix” approaches, there is palpable excitement among fans and in the music community. With his unique voice and stories to tell, Jett Holden is poised to make a significant impact in Nashville’s ever-evolving music landscape.
Holden emphasized his hope that his music will resonate with those who might feel marginalized, just as he once did. “I want to create a space that makes people feel seen and heard,” he said. “Everyone deserves to know that their story matters.”
With a promising debut album on the horizon and a supportive network behind him, Jett Holden’s journey is just beginning. The future looks bright for this Nashville upstart.
