The 4th Annual Kindling Arts Festival: Experiencing the Magic of Creative Imperfections
Located in the heart of the music city, Nashville comes alive this July with the multifaceted 4th Annual Kindling Arts Festival scheduled to run from Thursday, July 18, to Sunday, July 21.
Extravaganza of Experimental Performances
The Kindling Arts Festival, now in its biggest and boldest edition yet, promises a range of experimental performance works that will grace venues across the city. Among these include the Global Education Center and Begonia Labs – a project of Engine for Art, Democracy, and Justice based in Vanderbilt University, in addition to OZ Arts Nashville, The Darkhorse Theatre, Nashville School for the Aerial Arts, and Welcome to 1979.
These events will bring together a diverse mix of artists who are pushing limits and exploring new artistic avenues. The programs range from engaging community gatherings, music and spoken word collaborations, to innovative readings of groundbreaking new plays addressing pressing contemporary issues.
Venue Highlights
The Global Education Center is poised to host three theatrical productions and an array of workshops by local dancers and storytellers throughout the festival weekend.
One of the new venues, the Begonia Labs, located just south of Centennial Park will also be buzzing with activity. The facility, an erstwhile Scarlett Begonia storefront now converted into an upmarket arts space by the team at Engine for Art, Democracy, and Justice, will host several performances and community meetings during the festival.
“Imperfections” – A Celebratory Theme
This year, the festival delights in the theme of ‘Imperfections,’ which serves as a riveting lens to explore humanity. “The performances this year highlight the courage and creativity of artists who confront and celebrate their flaws, inviting audiences to reflect on their own experience. This theme reminds us that our imperfections make us unique and are often the source of our greatest strengths. We are overjoyed to share these thrilling, thought-provoking, and inspiring works with Nashville and hope to facilitate deeper connections and authentic storytelling that resonates with our diverse community,” said Co-Artistic Directors Daniel Jones and Jessika Malone.
Event Highlights
The “Imperfections”-themed line-up features an immersive dance-theater murder-mystery experience, an open-air sports-theater event between costumed monsters and humans, comic throwbacks, and a fascinating selection of dance and performance art that challenge the norms of local performance.
As the festival unfolds, guests can purchase individual tickets starting as low as $15. The festival also offers both Standard and VIP Festival Passes, available online at kindlingarts.com.
