Severe Weather Poses Tornado Threat to Nashville Over Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day Weekend Weather

As Nashville residents look forward to the long-anticipated Memorial Day weekend, the National Weather Service warns of potential weather threats. From heavy rainfall and damaging winds to the more severe threats of tornadoes and flash floods, the holiday weekend is expected to see ‘all modes of severe weather.’

Severe Weather Forecast for Middle Tennessee

Friday’s weather patterns are forecasted to continue similarly to the past two days: strong and potentially severe. The main threat includes high-speed winds reaching up to 60 mph alongside heavy rainfall and hail of sub-severe size. Although the storm activity is expected to decrease substantially after sunset, the weekend holds a heightened tornado threat. The risk of severe weather will be lowest on Saturday; however, the unstable atmospheric conditions may unexpectedly escalate any storms, leading to intense rainfall, gusty winds, and frequent lightning.

Worst Weather will Strike on Sunday

Residents should be especially cautious on Sunday as the tornado threat peaks, whilst a level two out of five slight risk has been projected for the entire Middle Tennessee region. As the weather service warns, the major concerns include damaging winds, large hail, tornadoes, and flash floods caused by heavy and repeated rounds of rain.

Memorial Day Respite

Fortunately, the consecutive onslaught of severe weather is expected to recede by Memorial Day. The morning may have some lingering showers, but as the day progresses, less humid air will be working into the area, leading to a pleasant Memorial Day evening. Although there is a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 a.m, those chances recede significantly as the day proceeds.

The Week Ahead

Looking forward to the week, warm, sunny weather is forecasted from Tuesday, marking an end to the destructive weekend weather. The temperature is expected to remain in the low 80s for most of the week, dipping into the high 50s during the night.

Weather Preparedness is Crucial

This unpredictable weather situation calls for residents to stay prepared and informed on the latest weather alerts. Commuters planning to travel this weekend should also monitor the weather conditions closely to assure safe journeys. Memorial Day weekend may not be the ideal sunny holiday many had anticipated, but with caution and preparedness, the residents of Nashville can assure their safety amid the storm.
