Music And Radio Executive Bill Mayne Passes

Nashville, TN – The music industry is today mourning the loss of one its leading figures, Bill Mayne. At 72, Mayne succumbed after a protracted battle with a chronic illness. His illustrious career spanning nearly five decades in the music and radio industry is noted with profound respect and admiration. Prior to his passing, Mayne served with distinction as a former CRB/CRS Executive Director.

Before joining the world of executive leadership, Mayne warmed up his career as a member of a band and subsequently transitioned into the realm of radio broadcasting. Demonstrating extraordinary adaptability, Mayne held numerous on-air and programming roles across several music genres including Top 40, Rock, and Country. Nevertheless, Country radio was where he genuinely found his professional niche.

As a radio executive, Mayne pioneered KASE in Austin. He later took charge of KZLA/KLAC in Los Angeles and KSCS/WBAP in Dallas. After that, he illuminated the Warner Bros./Nashville with his talent where he served for an impressive 15 years. There, in successive senior roles, he wielded particular influence in the area of promotional activities.

Mayne’s influence was also profoundly evident beyond his radio and label days. His admirable tenacity resulted in a decade-long tenure as the Executive Director of CRB. In this role, he significantly revitalized the organization, imprinting his professional ethos in such a manner that the organization continues to thrive to this day. The organization fittingly presented him with the President’s Award in 2019.

Bill Mayne possessed an entrepreneurial spirit, reflected through his leadership in Mayne Entertainment and Mayne Street Consulting. His invaluable expertise was expressed in the guidance offered to numerous clients in the field of entertainment. His philanthropic works included a 35-year service to the Academy of Country Music Board of Directors and co-founding the St. Jude Country Cares for Kids Program.

Mayne’s enduring legacy manifests through his loved ones: his wife of 46 years, Sallie Mayne, their sons Bryant Mayne and Christopher Mayne, his grandchild, Everleigh Mayne, as well as his mother-in-law Helen Wood.
