Nashville NAACP Hosts 105th Anniversary Freedom Fund Banquet Celebrating Collective Power

Nashville’s NAACP Annual Freedom Fund Banquet: A Celebration of Collective Strength

On Saturday, November 2, the vibrant city of Nashville will serve as the backdrop for a significant event, as the local branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) hosts its annual Freedom Fund Banquet. This year marks a special occasion as it coincides with the organization’s 105th Anniversary. The banquet will take place at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel, located right in the heart of downtown at 611 Commerce Street, starting at 6:00 PM CST.

Highlighting Collective Power

The theme for this year’s celebration is “All In: The Impact of Our Collective Power”. This theme emphasizes the importance of unity and collaboration in making positive changes within the community. It’s a call for everyone to come together, lifting up one another as they work towards achieving a brighter future for all.

Guests attending the event will be treated to a Meet and Greet Reception at 6:00 PM, followed by a program and dinner starting at 7:00 PM. It’s an excellent opportunity for attendees to mingle, share ideas, and feel inspired by the speakers and fellow guests.

A Distinguished Keynote Speaker

One of the most exciting aspects of the evening will be the keynote address delivered by Tennessee State Senator London Lamar. As the representative for District 33 in Memphis and part of Shelby County, she brings a wealth of experience and insight to the event. Senator Lamar is not just any speaker; she is a trailblazer, known for being the youngest female and African American legislator in Tennessee’s history.

In her own words, Senator Lamar describes herself as a “proud third generation resident” of her district. With a passion for civil service, she emphasizes the duty to fight for families and ensure a secure future. Her background includes graduating at the top of her class from Central High School in 2009 and earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science with minors in Sociology and Intercultural Studies from Saint Mary’s College in 2013.

Senator Lamar’s Accomplishments

Since becoming a senator, Lamar has made waves in the legislature. Appointed unanimously by the Shelby County Commission, after serving two terms as a State Representative, she has put her expertise to work by introducing more than 45 pieces of legislation during her tenure. Her relentless efforts have driven forward bills targeted at eliminating human trafficking, improving family healthcare, reducing gun violence, and expanding voting rights. With a robust agenda, she has significantly contributed to enhancing job opportunities for her constituents in Memphis.

The Mission of the NAACP

The primary mission of the NAACP is straightforward yet powerful: to secure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights to eliminate race-based discrimination. They work diligently towards ensuring the health and well-being of all individuals, regardless of race.

The Freedom Fund Banquet serves as a major fundraising event, allowing the organization to maintain their operations and provide essential resources for community members. This event empowers the community to hold various entities like the school boards, legislature, judicial districts, and Metro Mayor’s Office accountable, fostering transparency and ensuring that the voices of the people are heard and respected.

The NAACP’s vigilant efforts go beyond just fundraising; they are dedicated to realizing the promise of America for all citizens, making sure that equality and justice are not just buzzwords but an everyday reality.

For those interested in joining this meaningful celebration or wanting to learn more about the organization’s activities, you can reach out to the Nashville Branch office at (615) 329-0999.

So, mark your calendars and prepare to be part of something special in Nashville this November 2nd!
