It’s an exciting time in Nashville! The city known for its vibrant music scene has just announced the talented group of songwriters selected for the 12th annual ASCAP GPS (Guidance from Publishers for Songwriters) Project. This initiative is designed to nurture promising, unsigned songwriters by pairing them with industry professionals who can help elevate their careers to the next level.
This year’s project has been brilliantly organized by ASCAP’s dedicated Nashville membership team, led by ASCAP Vice President Mike Sistad. The program serves as a gateway for songwriters who are identified as ready for a publishing deal. With previous alumni including the likes of Jacob Davis, Hannah Dasher, and Caylee Hammack, it’s clear that the ASCAP GPS Project plays a vital role in shaping the future of music in the city.
Curated by ASCAP Associate Director Duane Hobson and ASCAP Manager of Nashville Membership Emilia James, the ASCAP GPS Project Class of 2024 boasts an impressive lineup of up-and-coming songwriters. The talented group includes: Aaron Pollock, Bobby Watson, Bri Fletcher, Bryce Cain, Daniella Spadini, Dylan Rockoff, Fran Litterski, Jillian Dawn, John Frank, and Maggie Reeves. Each of these artists is ready to shine and make their mark on the music industry.
Over the next several months, these talented writers will engage in a unique learning experience. They will be paired with various music publishers who will provide critiques on their songs and conduct follow-up meetings to help refine their craft. By the program’s conclusion, each participant is expected to have interacted with representatives from at least five different publishers, opening doors that could lead to significant opportunities.
This year, numerous well-known publishing companies are joining the initiative, further enhancing the potential of the program. Participating 2024 publishers include Sony Music Publishing, Warner Chappell Music, Universal Music Publishing Group, BMG Music Publishing, Concord Music Publishing, Liz Rose Music, Sea Gayle Music, Spirit Music Nashville, Endurance Music Group, and MV2 Entertainment. With such esteemed partners on board, the songwriters have the chance to learn from the best in the business.
Songwriters from the GPS Project Class of 2023 will be showcasing their hard work at the GPS Project LIVE showcase happening on October 21 at The Basement. It’s a chance for last year’s participants, including Blake Rackley, Chris Housman, Dan Harrison, and Kalina Tyne, to take the stage and demonstrate just how much they’ve evolved as artists.
The ASCAP GPS Project continues to be a transformative experience for many Nashville songwriters. For those who are passionate about their craft, it’s simply a golden opportunity to grow, learn, and potentially sign that coveted publishing deal. The music industry is listening, and the future looks bright!
