Nashville, Tenn. — In a disturbing series of events that left a local community shaken, a 38-year-old man has been hit with serious federal charges following a brutal incident at a clothing store. The accused, Pardrae Gooch, now faces multiple charges including robbery affecting interstate commerce, using fire to commit a felony, and damaging a building by fire, according to Acting United States Attorney Thomas J. Jaworski for the Middle District of Tennessee.
On May 29, 2024, Gooch allegedly walked into the S. Fashion Clothing Store located in South Nashville, armed with intent and a chilling plan. Court documents reveal a horrifying encounter where he is accused of brutally assaulting a female employee who was alone in the store at the time. Reports suggest he choked her until she lost consciousness, struck her, and then proceeded to steal from her.
But the nightmarish ordeal didn’t stop there. Before leaving the scene, Gooch reportedly took a pile of clothes and set them ablaze in the bathroom, attempting to engulf the store in flames with the woman still trapped inside. Thankfully, the courageous response of Metro Police and firefighters prevented a catastrophic outcome. They quickly intervened and extinguished the fire, allowing emergency services to rush the victim to the hospital for treatment.
The young woman was diagnosed with a cranial fracture along with other injuries resulting from the assault, highlighting the brutal nature of Gooch’s attack. Understandably, the local community has been left reeling from the shock of such a violent occurrence in their neighborhood. Fire damage caused enough disruption that the store was forced to close for several days as repairs were made, further impacting local business.
Investigations have revealed a troubling past for Gooch, who was reportedly out on bond for a set of domestic violence-related arrests involving two different women just weeks before this latest incident. Just eight days prior to the robbery and arson, he had been arrested for violating an order of protection, raising serious questions about his behavior and mental state.
With such serious charges looming, Gooch potentially faces a lengthy prison sentence if convicted. Prosecutors indicate that he could be looking at a minimum of 15 years and up to 20 years in federal prison. A hefty fine of up to $250,000 could also be on the table. This case is a stark reminder of the consequences that follow when individuals engage in such violent and reckless behavior.
As the community starts to process the events that unfolded that day, many are rallying together to support the victim as well as local businesses affected by the damage caused. It’s a challenging time, but neighbors and friends are coming together to demonstrate resilience in the face of such hardship.
Residents are urged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities while mourning the loss of safety in their beloved neighborhood. As the court date approaches, many will be closely watching to see how this case unfolds and what justice will ultimately look like for the community and the victim.
In times like this, Nashville serves as a reminder of the strength born from a supportive community, and as we await further developments, it’s essential that we all look out for each other.
