NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A man has been arrested on charges of attempted murder in connection with a shooting that took place earlier this week in Nashville. The suspect, identified as Albin Avdiu, was taken into custody on Wednesday after police spotted him in what appeared to be a drug deal.
Avdiu was being sought by law enforcement after a warrant was issued for his arrest related to a shooting that occurred on August 5, involving a 30-year-old Nashville resident. According to Metro Police, officers first located Avdiu on Kendall Park Drive while conducting an unrelated investigation. When police approached him, they observed what seemed to be drug activity, prompting them to call for backup.
However, Avdiu attempted to flee the scene. Officers deployed spike strips in an effort to stop him, and a chase ensued. The pursuit ended in a backyard on Griggs Place, where authorities successfully apprehended him.
Upon conducting a search of Avdiu’s vehicle, officers discovered a substantial amount of illegal substances. They found approximately 4.7 grams of blue powder, which tested positive for fentanyl, along with 800-900 pills that also tested positive for fentanyl. Additionally, various other unidentified pills and a loaded handgun were recovered from the car.
Metro Police conducted a further search at Avdiu’s residence. During that search, they confiscated two rifles, numerous loaded magazines, a money counter, and a total of $7,210.50 in cash. This evidence not only connects Avdiu to the shooting incident but also underscores the serious nature of the charges he is facing.
Due to the events surrounding the shooting and his subsequent arrest, Avdiu is now charged with multiple offenses. These include:
Currently, Avdiu is being held in jail with a bond set at $385,000.
The community in Nashville is reacting with concerns about rising violence and drug-related incidents. The police department has reiterated their commitment to tackle crime in the area and encourage the public to report any suspicious activities. They also noted that the successful arrest of Avdiu could potentially lead to a decline in drug-related crimes in the city.
As this situation develops, Avdiu’s court appearances and legal proceedings will be followed closely. The police department hopes that community engagement and vigilance will continue to help uncover and address ongoing issues related to crime and safety in Nashville.
Residents are urged to stay informed about local news and support efforts to promote safer neighborhoods. The police have advised that they will be increasing patrols in areas known for drug activity and are actively seeking information from community members who may have witnessed any related incidents.
The Nashville police department has made it clear that they will continue to work diligently to ensure that criminals are held accountable for their actions. The arrest of Avdiu marks a significant step in their ongoing fight against crime and violence in the city.
