Nashville Hosts Annual Tennessee Auctioneers Association Convention, Celebrating the Art of Auctioneering

Nashville Welcomes Auctioneers from Across the Country

In the lively city of Nashville, a unique gathering took place this weekend as more than 200 auctioneers from all over the country convened for the annual Tennessee Auctioneers Association Convention. This three-day event brought together some of the best voices on the microphone and served as a fantastic platform for both seasoned and new auctioneers to perfect their craft.

Celebrating the Art of Auctioneering

“This convention is basically a culmination of all the Tennessee auctioneers coming together in a convention format,” shared Shane McCarrell, the 2024 International Auctioneering Champion. McCarrell reflected on the significant role auctioneers play in various sectors, from real estate to charitable causes, and emphasized the importance of raising awareness about the profession. “For the next year, I’ll travel the country talking about it and being an ambassador for the auction industry,” he added with enthusiasm.

Finding the Rhythm in the Chant

The journey to becoming an auctioneer can spark from the most unexpected experiences. McCarrell’s path began after his service in the military. “I got out of the military back in 2013 at Fort Campbell, and I had never been to an auction,” he admitted. However, it was the signature sound of the auctioneer—the rhythmic chant—that caught his attention. “What really got me involved is I became enamored by the chant of the auctioneer. It’s very similar to the cadence in the military,” he explained.

Another auctioneer, Patti Baldini, who boasts 30 years of experience, reflected on her entry into the field as well. “Honestly, I was going through a divorce, and I needed a new career,” Baldini opened up. Although she found the work to be challenging, it provided the flexibility she needed to raise her family as a single mother of two. “It’s a lot of hard work, a lot of long days, long hours, but it allowed me to create a life for my kids,” she noted with pride.

A Life-Changing Career

Brandon Presley, who transitioned from a management career to auctioneering, shared his own inspirational narrative about the industry. “I stumbled across a career that was absolutely life-changing,” he said. Being a first-generation auctioneer, Presley found the profession to be an ideal fit, allowing him to combine passion with purpose.

Making a Difference Through Charity

A significant highlight of the auctioneer profession is its impact on charity fundraising. Auctioneers play a crucial role in raising funds for various nonprofit organizations through charity auctions. “It’s rewarding to see how our skills can positively influence the community,” shared McCarrell. Being able to contribute to such meaningful causes makes their work even more fulfilling.

Looking Forward

The Tennessee Auctioneers Association Convention is not just an event; it’s a chance for professionals in the field to network, share ideas, and elevate their craft. This year’s gathering emphasized the importance of community, resilience, and the art of auctioneering. Working together, these auctioneers not only learn from one another but also serve as powerful ambassadors for a profession that brings excitement and rigor to the world.

As the festivities wrapped up, registered auctioneers left Nashville with renewed enthusiasm and skills to showcase in their respective communities. Whether they are calling out bids for a prestigious property or supporting a local charity, these ambassadors of auctioneering are ready to make a difference.
