The accident occurred around 2:45 p.m. near mile marker 56, close to the Harding Place exit. Derek was riding his cherished Harley Davidson FLT and tried to merge onto I-24 East when tragedy struck. Reports indicate that he collided with a large tractor trailer, which resulted in his motorcycle sliding underneath the massive vehicle.

Despite the quick response from emergency personnel, they sadly pronounced him dead at the scene. Early investigations revealed that there was no sign of impairment from either Derek or the driver of the tractor trailer, leaving many questions lingering about what exactly caused this unfortunate incident.

The Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is arranging visitation times for family and friends to pay their respects. Friends and loved ones can gather on Saturday from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 11:30 a.m. until the 1:00 p.m. service at the Love-Cantrell Funeral Home chapel. Following the service, burial will take place at the Salem Cemetery.
