A high-speed chase ending in the successful apprehension of a felon caught in a carjacking act unfolded on the streets of Nashville, Tenn. on Friday, April 1, 2024. The suspect, identified as Joshua James Ward, aged 29 and a known felon from Montgomery County, now faces charges of carjacking, burglary, and an assortment of related crimes.

Surprise Encounter Leads to Violent Carjacking

The series of events began on March 29, when law enforcement received a distress call regarding a carjacking incident near the crossing of Felicia Street and 22nd Avenue North. The victim of the carjacking, who remains anonymous, reported that Ward had abruptly approached his vehicle, tapping on his window with a firearm and demanding him to exit his truck.

Forced into a situation of terror, the victim chose the path of compliance over confrontation. In lieu of his submission, Ward managed to execute a successful commandeering of the vehicle before speeding off into the streets of Nashville.

Quick Response and Arrest

The stolen vehicle was subsequently discovered stationary about three miles away on Vantage Way Court. A defiant Ward did not surrender to the approaching law enforcement, choosing instead, to attempt an escape on foot, where he discarded the firearm used in the carjacking.

Despite his desperate escape attempt, Ward was captured, and the discarded gun, verified as stolen, was also recovered. In a surprising and humble admission, the felon confessed to law enforcement, “I wanted to act tough, but I’m not tough.” Investigating officers further reported that Ward confessed to the theft of the firearm that had facilitated his carjacking crime.

Past Crime History

Ward’s rap sheet highlights a past conviction for felony theft dating back to the year 2017. As per the latest developments on his current case, the embattled felon is being housed in jail with a bond set at $75,000.

Commending Law Enforcement

The successful arrest and containment of Ward acts as a testament to the diligence and rapid response of Nashville’s law enforcement. Their commendable efforts in ensuring public safety continue to make headlines, as they thwart dangerous crime sprees before they spiral out of control.
