Community discussions are expected to follow regarding safe driving habits and responsible parenting.

Nashville Residents Shocked by Multiple DUI Incidents Involving Children

In a string of alarming incidents this month in Nashville, three women have been arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) while putting their children in harm’s way. The repercussions of their choices not only put their lives at risk but also the lives of their precious little ones, leading to charges of child endangerment and other serious offenses.

Four Children in Peril After a Mothers’ Night Out Gone Wrong

The most shocking incident occurred early Sunday morning when 30-year-old Ashton Grams crashed her car while driving with her four young children. The accident took place in the Napier area at the intersection of Fairfield Avenue and Fain Street.

When police arrived, they found Grams and her children, aged 8, 6, 5, and just 5 months old, outside of their overturned vehicle. An empty can of Bud Light was discovered on the passenger side, and Grams surprisingly admitted that the beer belonged to her but insisted she hadn’t had any since noon the previous day.

However, her erratic behavior was clear. Grams displayed signs of impairment during a field sobriety test, including bloodshot and glassy eyes, and officers also noticed a significant smell of alcohol, which Grams attributed to beer she claimed was spilled. To make matters worse, Grams was driving with a suspended license and had no insurance on the car.

She reported crashing into a parked trailer and then another truck, resulting in both vehicles being totaled. Thankfully, her children were taken to a local hospital to ensure their safety following the accident.

Grams now faces serious charges including four counts of child endangerment, DUI, driving on a suspended license, and possessing an open container of alcohol among other offenses.

Another Disturbing Case of DUI with a Child

Highlands Apartments on Nolensville Pike, around 2:10 p.m.

Initially, a concerned employee at the apartment complex reported that Perez was drinking in her car with her child present. Just an hour later, they called back to inform police that she was recklessly driving around the complex, still with her child in the vehicle.

When officers arrived, they found Perez in an office surrounded by employees, showing clear signs of intoxication. She acknowledged starting to drink around 10 a.m. and estimated she had consumed about six alcoholic drinks throughout the day. As she attempted to move her vehicle back in front of her building, police intervened, preventing any further reckless behavior.

After a poor performance on the field sobriety test, officers arrested Perez due to the evident risk to her child’s safety and others around her. As a result, she faces serious charges that include aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (her vehicle) and DUI with a child present, and she remains in jail with a bond set at $8,500.

Irresponsible Driving Leads to Arrest in Front of Children

The troubling trend continued when police arrested another woman, 28-year-old Kelly Ann Boyer, for DUI while her two children were in the car. Responding to multiple reports of erratic driving, officers stopped Boyer late Tuesday night on McEwen Drive.

When police approached her vehicle, they noticed it was missing its front bumper and had other damage hanging off. Inside, two children, aged seven and one, were found in the back seat. The charges against Boyer include DUI, failure to exercise due care, felony reckless endangerment, and two counts of child abuse.

She is currently detained in the Williamson County Jail, her bond set at a staggering $34,500, with her court appearance slated for July 27th.

A Call for Responsibility

These shocking incidents in Nashville serve as a stark reminder of the responsibilities of parenthood. When making choices that can potentially endanger not only their own lives but also the precious lives of their children, it is crucial for parents to think twice. The impact of such decisions can lead to devastating consequences—both legally and personally.

As the community reflects on these incidents, the hope is that they’ll foster discussions about safe driving habits and responsible parenting moving forward.
