Exciting Times in Nashville: The 55th Nashville Film Festival is Almost Here!

Hey, Nashville! Get ready to roll out the red carpet because the Nashville Film Festival (also affectionately known as NashFilm) is gearing up for another fantastic year. Mark your calendars for September 19 through September 25, 2024, because this week-long celebration of film, music, and culture is just around the corner. With venues across the city – including the historic Belcourt Theatre, Regal Green Hills, and the Franklin Theatre – you’ll have plenty of opportunities to catch the excitement.

Get Ready for Over 150 Films!

This year, the festival is set to feature an impressive lineup of more than 150 films, highlighting creativity from across the globe. Among these, we will see 44 feature-length films and over 33 official selections making their U.S., North American, and worldwide premieres right here in Music City! Now that’s something to cheer for!

To kick things off, the festival is launching with a double-feature opening night showcasing two highly anticipated films: “Devo” and “Rebel Country.” And for those who want to soak in every last moment, make sure to catch the closing night presentation featuring “This Is a Film About The Black Keys.”

A Glimpse at Tennessee Films

This year’s fest also puts a spotlight on films made in or connected to our great state of Tennessee. Among them is “Session, If A House Be Divided,” directed by Andrew Baxt. It dives into the heart of the Tennessee House of Representatives in 2024, shedding light on the heightened tensions and party divisions that are spilling into the national stage. Don’t miss this one!

There’s also the narrative feature “Beat Down,” directed by Curren Sheldon, along with “THE Tennessee 11,” directed by Rod Blackhurst, which follows a group of Tennessee citizens as they brainstorm legislative solutions for gun rights and safety. This is sure to ignite some meaningful discussions throughout the festival!

Star-Studded Presentations

But that’s not all! The festival boasts some truly remarkable presentations this year. Gear up for Netflix’s “Will & Harper,” featuring the comedy talents of Will Ferrell and a touching narrative about his close friend Harper Steele, who is rediscovering her identity as a trans woman during a road trip journey.

Another exciting film to check out is the Apple Original Films production “The Last Of The Sea Women,” where we follow an extraordinary band of grandmothers as they bravely confront various threats to the ocean they love. And let’s not forget about “Memoir Of A Snail,” an enchanting stop-motion feature by Oscar-winning animator Adam Elliot!

Special Appearances and Screenings

As if that doesn’t get you buzzing with excitement enough, Academy Award-winning singer-songwriter Melissa Etheridge will be hosting an exclusive Q&A and screening for her thought-provoking docuseries “Melissa Etheridge: I’m Not Broken.” This project chronicles her journey of creating a new song inspired by five incarcerated women she meets in her hometown.
