Nashville Locals Increasingly Disturbed by Illegal Street Races
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Residents around Nolensville Pike are growing increasingly weary of illegal street racing that’s disturbing their slumber at night, and disrupting their weekends. Some have declared that the situation has begun to play a significant role in their considerations to relocate.
“It will wake us up in the middle of the night. Or if we’re trying to go to sleep, it keeps us awake,” remarked Emily Lambright, a local resident, expressing her frustration over the noisy street racing. She noted that the issue comes both from the pike and a church parking lot along High Street where visible traces of tire marks can still be observed.
Residents fear for their safety
For the residents, the disruption affects more than just their sleep patterns and private peace – it is a matter of safety for their children as well. Austin Joe, who lives across the street, said, “There are a lot of crazy drivers. They destroy the parking lot as you see over there. I try to avoid it at night, especially on the weekends”. The situation has led some to consider drastic measures.
“It’s a consideration for us in our future as far as if we’re going to stay around here or try to find someplace quieter. I’d like to find someplace quieter,” Lambright admitted.
Concerns raised despite arrests
Despite the fact that the MNPD had made its 45th arrest in relation to speed racing since the previous year, Lambright, a 20-year resident of the neighbourhood, affirms that the noise has only grown progressively worse. “I know that by the time I call and get a hold of anybody, they’re going to be long gone,” she lamented.
The role of the local authorities
Local law enforcement urges residents to still make a report, even if police officers are not immediately visible at the scene. The information gathered from the report can assist them in deploying a helicopter, recording license plate numbers, and initiating tracking procedures later on. Providing a description of the offender is also helpful. However, officers generally abstain from car chases due to the potential danger posed to the general public.
Given the escalating disturbances and fears over safety, it’s becoming an increasingly tough choice for residents whether to combat the problem or simply move to ‘someplace quieter.’
