Renovation work at Nashville International Airport

News Summary

Nashville International Airport (BNA) is undergoing significant renovations aimed at enhancing passenger experience and accessibility. A temporary road closure will occur as part of beam removal work. The airport’s $1.5 billion New Horizon project will expand Concourse A to accommodate increased passenger traffic. Additionally, expansions for Concourse D and the Donelson Pike interchange are planned. With over 20 million passengers in 2023 and new international flight connections announced, these renovations are set to transform Nashville’s airport into a modern travel hub.

Nashville’s Airport is on the Move: Exciting Renovation Plans Ahead!

Hey there, Nashville! If you’ve been traveling through Nashville International Airport® (BNA®) lately, you might have noticed some construction action happening around. Well, buckle up because bigger changes are on the horizon! BNA is currently upgrading its facilities and making it easier for everyone to access the airport with ongoing renovations that aim for a more modern and spacious experience.

Watch Out for Road Closures!

First things first, there’s going to be some temporary hitching around the roads. The connector road between Terminal Drive and Donelson Pike will be closed from 11 p.m. on February 25 to 4 a.m. on February 26 for some serious beam removal work. If you’re driving southbound on Donelson Pike, you can still access Terminal Drive during this time. But if you’re headed north, the entry from the traffic light on Donelson Pike will be off-limits. Not to worry, northbound drivers can take Hangar Lane and the Airport Service Road to navigate around. To keep things clear, signage will be posted everywhere for smooth sailing during this temporary closure.

Big Changes Ahead: New Horizon Project

Now, here’s the juicy part! BNA has already kicked off a massive $1.4 billion renovation phase, which was wrapped up in February. That included a shiny new international arrivals facility, a satellite concourse, on-site hotel, and swanky new parking garages. But that’s just the beginning! They are diving headfirst into the second part of their renovation, called the New Horizon project, which will cost over $1.5 billion and span four years.

The New Horizon project will give Concourse A a complete makeover, taking it from a six-gate setup to a hefty 16-gate facility, which is perfect for accommodating our growing passenger traffic. This is a big deal, considering that BNA has already hit over 20 million passengers in 2023 and is projected to welcome around 24 million this year! With all the growth, new international flight connections to places like Dublin and Iceland have just been announced, meaning more travel adventures await.

What’s Going On with Concourse A & D?

So, the big plans for Concourse A are set to kick off in the summer of 2025, with an exciting completion target by mid-2028. Meanwhile, the extension for Concourse D is anticipated to open in July 2025, so travelers getting ready for their flights are in for a treat shortly! If that’s not enough, an expansion of the Donelson Pike interchange exit is also in the works with a target completion by the end of September 2025. There’s even a $6 million incentive in place aiming to finish the Donelson Pike I-40 interchange by May 31, 2025.

What Else is Happening?

And there’s still more on the renovation agenda! The long-planned construction for the new Exit 216 ramp to Donelson Pike was completed just last month. As for the major contractor behind these projects, Hensel Phelps is officially on board for the Concourse A Reconstruction Project, marking their fourth big contract at BNA. Sounds like they’re ready to roll up their sleeves and do some transforming!

In summary, Nashville International Airport is not only enhancing access and upgrading its facilities; it’s setting the stage to handle the influx of travelers with style and efficiency. Keep your eyes peeled, folks—Nashville is gearing up for some welcome changes in the travel scene!
