Nashville Gears Up for a Jazzy Weekend: WFSK-FM Launches 48-Hour Radiothon

Ah, Nashville! Known for its rich musical heritage, this vibrant city is about to get even jazzier! From October 4th to October 6th, WFSK-FM, our beloved jazz station, is kicking off its Annual 48-Hour Radiothon to rally community support and keep the music flowing. Are you ready to join in the fun?

What’s Happening This Weekend?

This wonderful weekend event kicks off on Friday, October 4th and runs through Sunday, October 6th. Each day, from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, you can swing by W.E.B. DuBois Hall on the Fisk campus to drop off donations in a specially set-up drive-thru giving area. It’s a safe and easy way for locals to support our city’s only HBCU radio station.

A Little About WFSK-FM

WFSK-FM has a proud history in Nashville; it’s been our 51-year-old HBCU FCC licensed radio station. It stands out as one of less than 30 HBCU radio stations across the United States. This station is not just a hub for jazz— it’s the only African American Public Radio station in Tennessee! Can you believe that? Being an integral part of the North Nashville community, WFSK is a beacon of light, sharing the magic of jazz music and more!

The Heart and Soul of the Station

Sharon Kay, the General Manager of WFSK, expressed her pride with heartfelt words, saying, “WFSK JAZZY 88 sits in the North Nashville area and serves as a beacon of light in the heart & soul of our city.” Operating under the proud banner of Historic Fisk University since 1973, WFSK holds the honor of being Nashville’s first and only jazz radio station, as well as the first African American FM radio station on this dial! What a legacy!

Why Is This Radiothon Important?

The Radiothon isn’t just about fundraising; it’s a wonderful celebration of community spirit. Over the course of this jam-packed weekend, listeners can enjoy smooth and contemporary jazz while soaking up valuable information from an array of community representatives. You’ll hear from elected officials, business leaders, recording artists, media personalities, and educators, all lending their voices to support the station.

Join the Jazz Movement!

The annual fundraising goal is set at $88,100, and every little bit helps keep the smooth tunes coming. This year, as you listen to your favorite jazz artists, consider making a contribution to support a station that has been a crucial part of Nashville’s cultural landscape.

Mark Your Calendars!

If you’re in town or even just passing through, make sure to stop by from October 4th to October 6th. Swing in, donate, and let’s keep Nashville’s jazz alive. Together, we can ensure that WFSK-FM continues to provide a vital voice in our community, helping to cover important issues while soothing our souls with its incredible music.

So, get ready, music lovers! Pack your car and head over to W.E.B. DuBois Hall for a weekend full of beats, education, and giving back. Because at WFSK, it’s more than just music—it’s a movement!
