Nashville Sees Sharp Increase in Juvenile Curfew Violations

According to the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD), the year-to-date statistics show that there’s been over a 45 percent increase in juvenile arrests for breaking curfew rules! Last year at this time, 109 young people were arrested for being out after hours. Fast forward to 2024, and that number has jumped to 159 arrests. Wow!
Understanding the Curfew

They aren’t allowed to be out in public without adult supervision between 11:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. from Sunday to Thursday. The curfew extends to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, along with special weeknight rules from June 1 through August 31. Seems simple, right?
Community Efforts Required
Jennifer Wade, an administrator for Davidson County’s Juvenile Court, says we might need to band together as a community to tackle this issue head-on. “It does put young people at risk of being at the wrong place at the wrong time, obviously, whether that means being involved in crime or being a victim of crime,” she pointed out. Wade emphasizes that the situation calls for a different approach to engage our young people more effectively.
