NASHVILLE, Tenn. – In a shocking incident that has left the South Nashville community reeling, a 38-year-old man is facing serious federal charges for allegedly assaulting a store employee and attempting to set a clothing store ablaze. The accused, identified as Pardrae Gooch, has been indicted by a federal grand jury with multiple counts including robbery affecting interstate commerce and damaging a building by fire.
The disturbing events unfolded on May 29 at around 3:20 p.m. at S Fashion, located in the 4700 block of Nolensville Pike. Witnesses and investigators say Gooch entered the store, where he committed a brutal attack on a lone female employee. Reports indicate that he choked her until she lost consciousness, inflicted physical harm, and forced her into the store’s bathroom.
Once inside the bathroom, the woman endured further violence as Gooch reportedly struck her again. During this terrifying ordeal, he took her cell phone and car keys. In a desperate act to cover his tracks and escape, Gooch then allegedly set fire to a pile of clothes in the bathroom, which could have led to devastating consequences for the victim trapped within.
Fortunately, the victim regained consciousness in time and was able to make her way to the front door, where employees from a nearby business spotted her and quickly alerted the authorities. It was a harrowing situation, leaving the employee with serious injuries that included a cranial fracture.
In the aftermath of this alarming incident, it became clear that Gooch has a troubling history with the law. He was already a convicted felon, having been found guilty of aggravated robbery back in 2016. Currently, he was out on bond for several domestic violence-related offenses involving two different women. Just a week before this incident, authorities arrested him once again for violating an order of protection.
Now facing a series of dire accusations, Gooch’s future looks bleak. If convicted on all counts, he could face a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in federal prison, and potentially up to 20 years behind bars. There’s also the possibility of a hefty fine, up to $250,000, hanging over his head. These consequences reflect the gravity of his alleged actions that day.
This shocking case has stirred concerns among locals about safety in retail environments. Many are left wondering how such violent acts can unfold so suddenly in places where people frequently go to shop or work. Community members have expressed their dissatisfaction with the recurring cycle of violence, especially involving individuals with a history of criminal behavior.
As legal proceedings move forward, many in Nashville are hoping for justice for the victim and looking for measures to enhance safety in public spaces. The feeling in the community is such that a safe environment should be the standard everywhere, especially in places as ordinary as clothing stores.
It serves as a reminder that vigilance and community support are crucial. The story highlights the importance of speaking out and taking action when it comes to personal safety and the safety of others.
As the dust settles from this unsettling event, one can only hope for healing and a renewed emphasis on protective measures that prevent such tragic incidents from happening in the future.
