Nashville, Tenn. — Recent events on Broadway have stirred quite a bit of conversation, especially after a man caused quite a scene by waving knives and making threats in front of unsuspecting pedestrians. It all went down on a sunny Sunday afternoon, and while it might sound alarming, the local authorities acted swiftly to manage the situation safely.
On Sunday, October 6, just after 2:40 PM, several calls flooded into Metro police reporting a man acting strangely and endangering those around him. Witnesses described the suspect as a man wearing a black vest, swinging two large folding knives and shouting aggressively towards passersby on the bustling sidewalk.
When officers arrived at the 300 block of Broadway, they found the man, identified as 36-year-old Ronald Reeves, standing in front of an alleyway located between two popular spots: Jason Aldean’s Kitchen and Rooftop Bar, and Broadway Brewhouse Downtown. A state trooper had already found Reeves and was attempting to keep the situation under control. Officers could see the knives resting on top of a trashcan nearby, just within Reeves’ reach.
The police instructed Reeves to follow specific orders: they asked him to show his hands and lay down on the ground. Unfortunately, Reeves was not keen on complying. Instead, he became argumentative and started shouting, alternating between crouching and standing in a way that made the situation more chaotic.
As the officers tried to de-escalate things, they decided to use a taser after Reeves continued to resist their commands. After multiple warnings and still no compliance from him, they tasered him a second time, ultimately leading to his arrest.
Witnesses provided some valuable insight into what they had seen. One person shared that they had watched Reeves running through traffic, striking the knives against the ground while shouting loudly at people. It was a sight that had onlookers backing away to protect themselves.
Another brave individual approached Reeves in an effort to reason with him. This bystander asked Reeves to stop waving the knives and attempted to explain the danger of his actions. However, Reeves’ aggressive demeanor made this person feel threatened, prompting them to retreat and reach out to the police for help.
Authorities took swift action following his arrest. Ronald Reeves now faces serious charges, including assault with a deadly weapon, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest. At the moment, he is being held at Metro Jail, with a bond set at $14,000.
While it’s certainly unfortunate when incidents like this occur, the quick response from law enforcement helped ensure that no one was injured. Broadway is a lively area with many people just looking to enjoy their day; it’s essential that everyone feels safe while walking around. Let’s hope that Ronald Reeves gets the help he needs and that Nashville continues to thrive as the vibrant and welcoming city that it is.
