Nashville Music Creators Conference Inspires Aspiring Composers and Songwriters

Nashville Welcomes Music Creators for Inspiring Conference

Last Friday, Nashville came alive as it hosted the second annual Nashville Music Creators Conference, organized by BMI and the Society of Composers and Lyricists (SCL). The event was a delightful gathering dedicated to shedding light on music for visual media while nurturing the creative ambitions of budding composers and songwriters. It was a fantastic day filled with insightful conversations, laughter, and a celebration of the art of storytelling through music.

Insights from Renowned Composers

The conference kicked off at the BMI office located right on the iconic Music Row, where attendees filled the space with excitement and curiosity. The highlight of the event was the “Composer Conversations,” a series of discussions featuring several well-known composers from the industry. These sessions provided a unique opportunity for aspiring music creators to learn from experienced professionals about their creative processes and the journeys that shaped their careers.

Tracy McKnight, BMI’s Vice President of Creative, Film, TV & Visual Media, took the lead as she moderated a captivating chat with Ryan Lott of the acclaimed musical group Son Lux. Ryan shared fascinating insights into his work on various acclaimed projects including Everything Everywhere All At Once and the latest film score for The Greatest Hits. The conversation offered an engaging glimpse into Ryan’s creative process, revealing how he transforms emotions and narratives into music.

Film Music Magic with Rob Simonsen

The excitement continued as McKnight invited Rob Simonsen to the stage. Known for his contributions to beloved films such as Deadpool, Wolverine, and the recent It Ends With Us, Simonsen took the audience through his journey as a film composer. He also spoke passionately about his work on Postcard from Earth, a groundbreaking film that marked its debut in the incredible Las Vegas Sphere, captivating everyone who was able to experience it.

Simonsen’s anecdotes and insights not only entertained but also enlightened a room full of eager listeners. His stories illustrated how powerful film music can be, with the ability to elevate stories and tug at the heartstrings of audiences around the world.

A Conversation with Emmy Award-Winning Composer

The day wouldn’t have been complete without a discussion featuring the talented Carlos Rafael Rivera, a three-time Emmy Award-winning composer behind popular series such as Lessons in Chemistry and Netflix’s Griselda. SCL’s President Ashley Irwin hosted this session, which proved to be an engaging exploration of Rivera’s career. The audience was treated to video clips and sound bites from his various projects, bringing his creative journey to life.

Rivera passionately shared how he finds inspiration and the meticulous process involved in composing soundtracks that resonate deeply with audiences. The session painted a rich picture of how unique music can tailor an emotional landscape in visual storytelling.

A Platform for Aspiring Composers

Overall, the Nashville Music Creators Conference was a resounding success. The event not only fostered a sense of community among music creators but also served as an invaluable platform for sharing knowledge and inspiration. With laughter, learning, and newfound connections, attendees left the conference buzzing with ideas and motivation.

In a city known for its rich musical heritage, this conference was a bright reminder of the power of music in film and media. As these seasoned composers shared their stories, they ignited a spark in the next generation of creators, encouraging them to pursue their passions and make their mark in the world of music.
