Nashville Introduces Nonstop Flights to Reykjavík, Iceland Starting May 2025

Nashville Welcomes New Direct Flights to Iceland!

Exciting news for travelers in Nashville! Starting May 16, 2025, Nashvillians will have a brand new way to get their travel fix with nonstop flights to Reykjavík, Iceland, thanks to a partnership between Nashville International Airport® (BNA®) and Icelandair. This is fantastic news for anyone in Music City dreaming of ice-covered landscapes, geysers, and all the charm that Iceland has to offer.

Flight Details

The new flights will take to the skies on a B737-800 MAX aircraft, which can accommodate 16 passengers in Saga Premium and 144 in Economy. That means there’s plenty of room to experience this exciting journey! The approximately 7-hour flight will operate four times a week: on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Perfect for both weekend getaways and spontaneous mid-week adventures!

A Gateway to Adventure

But this new flight isn’t just a highlight for Nashville. It’s also a gateway to Europe! It allows travelers access to Icelandair’s extensive network that connects to other exciting destinations such as Amsterdam, Berlin, Copenhagen, London, and Paris. Just imagine hopping off your Reykjavik flight and diving straight into European excitement!

A Message from the Officials

Doug Kreulen, the president and CEO of the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority, shared his enthusiasm: “We are thrilled to welcome Icelandair to BNA and bridge the gap between Music City and the Land of Fire and Ice.” He explained how this new route will not only boost connectivity for both business and leisure travelers but also serve as the perfect jumping-off point for Icelandic explorations and beyond.

Gov. Bill Lee echoed the excitement by noting how Tennessee is becoming a significant player in the world of air travel: “This announcement further demonstrates Tennessee’s standing as a leader in commerce, innovation, and connectivity,” he said, highlighting the growth and opportunities the new service will offer.

Why Iceland?

For those not yet familiar, Iceland is a land of stunning contrasts with mesmerizing natural beauty. From majestic waterfalls and expansive glaciers to hot springs and volcanoes, the alluring landscapes are enough to take your breath away. Travelers especially love the chance to witness the shimmering northern lights in winter or explore beautiful national parks during the summer under the midnight sun.

Reykjavík itself is a vibrant city filled with delicious food options, unique museums, and charming streets bustling with activity. It’s a fantastic destination for a weekend trip or a longer adventure.

A Bright Future for Music City

As Nashville continues to grow as a global city, the addition of this new service allows for exciting new cultural exchanges. Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell reflected on this opportunity, stating: “Reykjavik is one of the most unique cities in the world, and I am grateful for this partnership between our two cities.”

Deana Ivey, the President and CEO of the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp, shared her thoughts on how Nashville is rapidly becoming a significant travel destination. “With this new route from Icelandair, it will be easier than ever for international travelers…to experience all we have to offer.” She also noted how this opens up vital markets across Europe for more seamless travel.

Travel Options

If you’re thinking about hopping on a flight to Iceland, be sure to check out Icelandair’s stopover options, allowing passengers to spend up to seven days exploring Iceland at no extra airfare cost! It’s a fantastic way to make the most of your trip.
