In the heart of Nashville, a team of compassionate individuals have found an innovative way to bring warmth and comfort to those in need. They strive not merely to aid, but to restore pride, dignity, and positivity in the lives of the less fortunate. The initiative, dubbed Project Redesign, is spearheaded by its co-founder, Karen Moore.
Project Redesign is focused on giving a facelift to the homes of those who are less privileged, and turning community centers and various nonprofit organizations into cosy, functional spaces with carefully curated and redesigned donated furniture. The organization’s stellar work in employing donated furnishings to create comfortable and functioning homes helps numerous individuals take pride in their homes while benefiting from a more welcoming and secure living environment.
When asked about her motivation to start this nonprofit organization, Moore recounts her experiences delivering Meals on Wheels to the communities at Cayce Homes. She witnessed children sleeping on bundles of dirty clothes with no furniture in sight. This propelled her to instigate this altruistic venture, creating tangible change in the lives of those in need.
Project Redesign raises necessary funds through annual fundraising events. The popular “Sip and Shop” invites local businesses to participate and donate a portion of their proceeds to the Project. They’ve recently introduced “Girls Night Out“, an evening filled with music, good food, and silent auctions.
While donating furniture and redesigning homes are their main activities, Project Redesign’s impact extends far beyond individuals and homes. Moore and her team collaboratively work with a diverse set of thirteen non-profits, utilizing Project Redesign’s resources to help these organizations serve the wider community. They partner across five counties and seven cities in Middle Tennessee, reclaiming lives and revitalizing entire communities, one home at a time.
Moore ardently speaks about the influence of her father, who was a Funeral Home director. She grew up witnessing him provide solace and support to people in their most vulnerable state. His teachings of generosity and empathy profoundly shaped her approach towards serving others. She also credits her co-partners at Project Redesign, Suzanne Snyder, Ellie Billington, and Allison Douglas, for making their mission both fulfilling and enjoyable.
Drawing from her passion for art and interior design, Moore uses her skills to breathe life into gloomy spaces, and in turn, the lives of the people living there. She is continually inspired by the mission of other non-profits and seeks to align Project Redesign with their vision and goals, catalyzing a communal impact.
In essence, Project Redesign is more than a non-profit organization. It is a beacon of hope and a symbol of community resilience, driven by a group of people joining hands to make a tangible difference in society.
