Nashville Prepares for Severe Weather This Weekend

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – As we head into the weekend, residents of Nashville should brace themselves for some strong storms that are expected to hit the area on Friday and Saturday. Local meteorologists have declared these days as First Alert Weather Days due to the potential for severe thunderstorms.

Weather Advisory Issued

A Heat Advisory will be in effect on Friday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. for counties along and near the Tennessee River. Residents are advised to stay cool and drink plenty of water as temperatures rise.

What to Expect Friday and Saturday

Starting Thursday night, showers and thunderstorms will begin moving into the area from the northwest. Nashville can see some rain overnight, with morning lows hovering in the mid-70s. As the day progresses on Friday, scattered thunderstorms are likely to roll in, bringing some heavy downpours and potentially strong wind gusts. The most significant storm activity is expected in the mid-morning to early afternoon.

The forecast for Friday shows temperatures climbing into the mid-90s but feeling closer to 100 degrees due to humidity. The chance of rain in Nashville is around 50%, meaning while some residents may experience heavy downpours, others might not see much rain at all.

Severe Weather Warnings

Saturday’s forecast indicates that storms are likely to continue, with the most probable timing for storms falling around midday. However, forecasts can change, so residents should keep an eye on updates leading into the weekend. The chance of rain on Saturday is estimated at 40%.

Given the expected weather conditions, there could be potential hazards including lightning, poor driving conditions, and isolated areas experiencing very strong wind gusts. It’s advisable to stay indoors during severe storms and avoid unnecessary travel.

Post-Storm Relief

After the storms pass through on Saturday, a cold front is expected to slide through Nashville, which will bring some relief from the heat and humidity. Sunday looks to be less eventful with a significantly reduced chance of rain at 20%, as temperatures will also drop somewhat with highs in the mid-80s.

What’s Next for Nashville?

Looking ahead, Monday is expected to feature a northeast breeze that will usher in cooler, less humid air. Residents can expect a day with highs in the mid to upper 80s, quite a contrast from the sweltering heat of the previous weekend. Tuesday is forecasted to be pleasant and seasonal, with continued low humidity levels and highs reaching into the mid-80s.

However, as the week progresses into Wednesday and Thursday, temperatures and humidity are expected to rise again, with highs nearing 90 degrees under mostly sunny skies.

Stay Prepared

As the weather changes, staying safe is the top priority. Make sure you have a weather plan in place, keep up with the latest forecasts, and prepare for possible disruptions to daily plans. It’s always better to be prepared than to be caught off guard.
