Nashville, Tenn. — It’s hard to believe that it’s been 25 years since the St. Jude’s Rock N’ Roll Running Series first hit the streets of Music City! What started as a modest running event has now blossomed into an electrifying marathon that attracts thousands of runners and spectators alike. On Wednesday night, staff members and legacy runners gathered to kick off the excitement for the upcoming anniversary marathon in April.
Adam Zocks, the man who directed the very first marathon back in 2000, has returned to coordinate this special milestone. Zocks reminisced about the early days, noting that the first few years were quite challenging. “There were a lot of folks in Nashville who didn’t think the marathon would survive the second year,” he said with a chuckle. “Fast forward to now, and we’ve grown from 6,000 participants to a whopping 30,000 runners!“
The celebration was not just about numbers; it was also about community. Among those attending were legacy runners, which are participants who have completed every single marathon since its inception. One of these runners, Larry Phillips, expressed how special it is to be part of the event. “I love the energy, that’s why I do it,” he shared, his enthusiasm evident. “The best part about Nashville is the people that line the streets and come out and cheer you on…and the bands and music at every mile marker. It’s just fun!”
The marathon weekend is set for April 26-27 next year, and there’s something for everyone! Whether you’re a seasoned marathoner or just starting out, you can choose from a variety of courses including the full marathon, half marathon, 10K, 5K, 1 Mile, and the exciting KiDS ROCK event for youngsters.
As a cherry on top, this running series is not just about racing; it also supports an incredible cause. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is the featured charity for the series, reminding everyone that they are running not just for personal achievement but also to support children and families fighting cancer and other life-threatening diseases. It’s a fantastic way to put your feet to good use while making a difference!
Are you feeling inspired? There’s still time to join in on the fun! Registration is open for runners, and volunteers are also needed to help make this event a success. If you want to learn more or sign up, just head to their website.
