Nashville Welcomes Back a Celebration of Young Artists!

Nashville is all set to host the 17th Annual Middle Tennessee Regional Student Art Exhibition at the stunning Parthenon, with the exhibition running from January 23 to March 1. This event is a fantastic opportunity for students in grades 6-12 from diverse backgrounds—be it public, private, or home-schooled—to showcase their creative talents. So, whether you’re an art enthusiast or just curious about the creative minds of the youth, make sure you put this on your to-do list!

The Highlights of the Exhibition

The exhibition will display a colorful mix of artistic categories, including Ceramics, Computer Graphics, Drawing, Mixed Media, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture, and Video. With around 800 student submissions, it’s astonishing to note that a total of 188 winners have been selected—talk about talent!

This year, the judging panel will comprise esteemed art professionals from the Watkins School of Art at Belmont University. They are on the lookout for great originality, technical skill, and personal vision, which are all vital criteria for judging the entries.

Don’t miss the opening reception and awards ceremony on January 23 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.. It’s a splendid way to kick off the exhibition, and who knows—you might even find some of your favorite young artists in attendance! Not to mention, throughout the exhibition, the works will be displayed on Level 2, right next to the majestic Athena statue—what a beautiful backdrop!

A Range of Awards

Every grade level in each artistic category will be recognized, with awards including First, Second, and Third Place, along with Honorable Mentions. The overall category winners will be recognized as Best of Show, Best of High School, and Best of Middle School. Furthermore, every different type of artwork has its unique awards, adding to the sense of achievement for the talented students.

To top it all off, scholarships will be offered to the top winners in each category for sophomores, juniors, and seniors. There’s even a special award for the Best of High School winner!.

Exciting Collaborations

This exhibition marks the third year at the Parthenon, and it coincides with STEAM Expeditions for approximately 2,000 sixth-grade students from 17 MNPS schools visiting during this time. It’s a win-win situation, encouraging young minds to engage with art while simultaneously exploring science!

General Admission

What’s even better? Admission to this vibrant exhibition is free! Guests can RSVP through Eventbrite and enjoy the display in the artistic hub that is the Parthenon. The venue is welcoming visitors from Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Sunday from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

For those who aren’t able to attend the exhibition but still want to support the arts, admission prices are quite reasonable—$10 for adults, $8 for seniors aged 62 and over, and $8 for children aged 4 to 17. And don’t forget, children under 4 and members of the Centennial Park Conservancy get in for free!
