Nashville Teens Caught in High-Speed Chase After Vehicle Burglaries
Nashville was the scene of an exciting, yet concerning, chase early Saturday morning, February 1st. In the wee hours, five teenagers found themselves in a bit of trouble after leading police on a high-speed pursuit linked to a series of vehicle burglaries. While the night may have started innocently enough, it quickly turned into a wild ride for these young individuals.
Police Response to Vehicle Break-Ins
It all began around 1:30 a.m. when officers from the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) received reports about vehicle break-ins in the 2800 block of Elm Hill Pike. This wasn’t the first time they had heard of trouble in the area. Officers had recently been alerted to a firearm stolen from a vehicle parked at the Nashville Palace on McGavock Pike. What a way to start a morning!
Chasing a Suspicious Vehicle
As they were investigating these break-ins, a police patrol spotted a tan Hyundai Elantra that matched the description of the suspect vehicle. It was leaving the area of some hotels on Royal Parkway, and when officers activated their lights and sirens, the Elantra took off like a rocket! It’s no surprise that the chase was on.
A Standoff at a Public Housing Complex
Police kept a steady pursuit of the speeding vehicle, tracking it until it finally came to a stop on Charles E. Davis Boulevard. But that wasn’t the end of the drama. The five young occupants quickly fled the car and sprinted into a vacant apartment at the nearby Tony Sudekum public housing complex. Talk about a scene straight out of a movie!
What did the Cops Find Inside?
After a brief standoff where the suspects refused to come out, officers took matters into their own hands and entered the apartment. Inside, they made some shocking discoveries. There were five firearms, extra magazines, glass-breaking tools, flashlights, and gloves all laying around. To add to the treasure trove, police also found multiple credit cards and identification documents belonging to other individuals. It turns out these teens had quite the stash!
The Elantra’s Condition
Meanwhile, the tan Hyundai Elantra wasn’t looking too good either. Officers noticed it had a stripped steering column and signs of ignition tampering, typically indicating some shady business going on. Although they tried to contact the registered owner of the car, they couldn’t reach them right away. Can you imagine the confusion on the other end of the line?
Who Faced Charges?
The suspects included two 16-year-olds, two 17-year-olds, and an 18-year-old named Lecestur Seats Jr. Lecestur is facing serious charges including four counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, aggravated trespassing, and possession of burglary tools. One of the 17-year-old suspects was also charged with felony evading arrest, juvenile handgun possession, aggravated trespassing, and possession of burglary tools. The other three juveniles received charges for juvenile handgun possession, possession of burglary tools, and trespassing.
Still More to Uncover
As investigations continue into the potential involvement of these teenagers in other vehicle burglaries, it’s likely more charges might be coming down the pipeline. It’s certainly a cautionary tale for young folks out late without a plan in a city that’s known for its liveliness. One thing’s for sure, this isn’t the kind of adventure any teenager wants on their record.
