Nashville Braces for Frigid Weather and Snow This Week!
Hey Nashville! It looks like we’re in for quite a chilly spell this week. The Office of Emergency Management (OEM) has been keeping a close eye on the forecast and is gearing up for some seriously cold temperatures scheduled to hit us on Thursday.
What’s Happening This Week?
To ensure everyone’s safety, the OEM conducted cold patrols on Wednesday, making sure that vulnerable populations were looked after. On that note, if you’re wondering about trash collection – here’s the scoop: There won’t be any trash pickup happening on Thursday. Convenience centers will also be closed. If you usually have your trash picked up on Wednesdays, don’t fret! It’s now tentatively set for Friday, and the Thursday collection is being pushed to Saturday.
One more quick note – recycling services will be taking a break for the remainder of the week. Residents are kindly asked to hold onto their recyclables until the next scheduled collection. Let’s make sure we’re all doing our part!
Travel Cautions for Nashville Residents
If you absolutely must hit the road, it’s wise to take extra precautions. The Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure (NDOT) has been on the ball, treating roadways since Monday. They will continue to focus on regular routes as well as known trouble spots, so keep your eyes open your speed down! If you encounter any issues on Nashville streets, don’t hesitate to call 311 or 615-862-5000, available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
WeGo Transit Update
Looking to get around town? WeGo transit will be operating under a Saturday service with snow route detours on Thursday. Make sure to check their schedule if you’re planning any travel, as adjustments are being made to navigate the winter weather.
What’s Open and Closed?
As the temperatures drop, some services are affected too. Metro Social Services will be closed on Thursday, but don’t worry, general sessions court and the Metro Nashville Davidson County Office of Family Safety will still be open and ready to help. The Metro Public Health Department will remain operational as well.

Sumner County and Dickson County Prepping
The Sumner County Highway Department is already preemptively brining roadways and ensuring that salt trucks are lined up and ready for action! The EMA Director in Sumner County has stressed the need to plan and adapt from our recent flooding response into preparations for winter weather.
Meanwhile, over in Dickson County, preparations are ramping up with hourly briefings scheduled with local departments and weather services. Everyone is doing their part to stay one step ahead of the storm, so let’s give them a round of applause!
Stay Safe and Warm!
As we face the coming cold and snow, Nashville officials are urging everyone to cut down on unnecessary travel, especially on Wednesday when conditions are expected to be particularly tricky. Let’s all stay safe, warm, and look after each other during this chilly week!
