News Summary

Nashville is bracing itself for a dramatic weather change this weekend with both floods and snow forecasted. A flood watch is in effect for several Tennessee counties due to heavy rainfall and gusty winds. Following the rain, a winter storm watch will bring potential snow accumulations of four to seven inches, significantly impacting travel. Residents are advised to take precautions as road conditions may become treacherous due to refreezing. Be sure to stay updated and prioritize safety during this intense weather event!

Nashville Braces for Wild Weather: Floods and Snow on the Horizon!

Hey there, Nashville! Grab your umbrellas and snow boots because we’re in for a whirlwind of weather excitement over the next few days! Storms are sweeping through our lovely city this Thursday night, bringing some thunder and lightning action. But don’t panic—right now, there’s no severe weather lurking around the corner.

Flood Watch Alert!

The National Weather Service has expanded the flood watch to parts of Tennessee and Kentucky, lasting until 6 a.m. this Friday. The counties in Tennessee feeling the pinch include Henry, Stewart, Montgomery, and Robertson. Just over the border, parts of Kentucky, like Trigg, Christian, Todd, and Muhlenberg counties, are also under watch. It’s no joke—potential rainfall could reach a whopping 3 inches or more in some areas!

Hold on tight, because winds are gusty tonight, whipping around at speeds of 20-40 mph. The bulk of the rain is expected to wrap up overnight, but keep your eyes peeled for a few lingering showers and storms on Friday afternoon.

Snow: The Icy Intruder!

But wait, there’s even more! As if the rain isn’t enough to deal with, a winter storm watch is also knocking on Nashville’s door. Set to roll in from Friday morning and hanging around until late that night, this snowy visitor is likely to make traveling a tricky affair. Wednesday night will bring the coldest temperatures we’ve seen yet, dipping into the teens, and in the Cumberland Plateau region, we might even see a 10-30% chance of single-digit temps!

Feast your eyes on this: snow is forecasted to kick off Friday morning, continuing into the early hours of Saturday. The heaviest snowfall is expected to hit from late morning to early evening, so you’d better be ready!

What’s the Snow Total?

Forecast models predict total snow accumulations could land between four and seven inches across Middle Tennessee, with certain areas possibly exceeding seven inches, boasting a 30-50% chance of extra white stuff! Nashville itself is expected to receive about four inches, while places nearby, like Clarksville, Lafayette, and Columbia, could expect up to six inches of snow. The snow initially will be heavy and wet but is set to turn light and fluffy as colder air rolls in later on Friday.

Travel Woes Ahead

The snow will gradually taper off Friday evening into the early hours of Saturday, but don’t be fooled—travel impacts will still be lurking about. With the potential for refreezing on roads during the night, these streets could become treacherous once again, so tread carefully! In fact, travel is generally advised against on Friday due to those slippery conditions.

Forecast Ahead: Chill and Melt

Looking ahead, Saturday is set to kick off with chilly temps in the 20s, and Sunday morning could bring temps plummeting into the teens again, resulting in even more icy spots to watch out for. The afternoons of both Saturday and Sunday will keep the highs around 36 degrees and the upper 30s, respectively, leading to some much-needed melting on Sunday. Phew!

So, Nashville, stay safe out there as we ride this weather rollercoaster! Whether you’re dodging rain or making snow angels, be prepared for anything that Mother Nature throws our way. Remember, your safety comes first, so keep an eye on the weather and plan accordingly!
