Big changes are afoot in the heart of country music! Nashville is buzzing with excitement as Universal Music Group Nashville (UMGN) recently announced the promotion of Damon Moberly to the position of Senior Vice President of Promotion. This news comes straight from the top, where UMGN Chair and CEO, Cindy Mabe, emphasized her enthusiasm for Moberly’s new role, saying, “Damon is such a champion of great artists and songs. His passion for music and his skillset of building people and teams makes him the perfect person to lead our promotion team to new depths.”
Moberly isn’t just a new face in the office; he is a long-standing pillar of the Nashville music scene, bringing over 25 years of experience with the label group. Having climbed the ranks from the top, he most recently served as the Senior Vice President and head of the Mercury Nashville radio promo team. His career kicked off with a bang, marking the promotional launch of Shania Twain’s monumental album, Come On Over. Talk about starting with a hit!
From that point on, Moberly has played a significant role in shaping the careers of many revered country artists including Sammy Kershaw, Terri Clark, Sugarland, and Jamey Johnson. His expertise doesn’t stop there; he has also taken on impressive projects that brought legendary songs and artists into the country music spotlight.
Among Moberly’s career highlights is his work on Eagles singles at country radio. He also contributed to the runaway success of “I’m A Man of Constant Sorrow” from the blockbuster movie soundtrack, O Brother, Where Art Thou? This catchy tune wasn’t the only one that caught the public’s ear under his guidance; Moberly also influenced the No. 1 hit “Who Says You Can’t Go Home” by Jon Bon Jovi featuring Jennifer Nettles, as well as Lionel Richie’s acclaimed album, Tuskegee, which topped the Billboard 200 charts.
His portfolio is a testament to his effectiveness in the industry, as he’s been instrumental in elevating the careers of stars like Chris Stapleton, the dynamic duo The War And Treaty, and 12-time chart-topper Billy Currington. Not to forget the award-winning duo Maddie & Tae, alongside rising talents such as Priscilla Block, Dalton Dover, Luke Grimes, Bryce Leatherwood, Josh Ross, and Sam Williams.
In his own words, Moberly expressed his gratitude for his new role, saying, “I’ve been fortunate to call Mercury Records Nashville my only label home for the past 26 years. I’m honored to now work with all the UMG Nashville imprints and artists alongside the best promotion pros in the business. Thanks to Cindy Mabe for this opportunity.”
The country music community is undoubtedly eager to see how Moberly’s leadership will steer the promotion team to fresh heights. With his extensive experience and passion for the craft, the future looks bright for country artists under his wing. Stay tuned! There are surely exciting times ahead in Nashville!
