Nashville Prepares for Impending Winter Storm

News Summary

As Nashville gears up for a significant winter storm, the Nashville Department of Transportation is enacting plans to ensure roads remain safe and clear for drivers. With pre-treatment efforts already in place and a dedicated snow removal crew on standby, NDOT aims to tackle the expected snowfall efficiently. Residents are advised to avoid travel if possible, while neighboring counties also implement precautionary measures. This comprehensive preparation underscores the city’s commitment to public safety during winter weather events.

Winter Storm Preparations Underway in Nashville

As Nashville braces for an impending winter storm this Friday, the Nashville Department of Transportation (NDOT) is hard at work laying out a plan to keep roads safe and clear for drivers. With a winter storm warning in effect for much of Middle Tennessee, the city is putting its best foot forward to tackle what’s expected to be a significant snowfall.

Pre-treatment Efforts Already in Motion

In preparation for the storm, NDOT crews have pre-treated primary and secondary routes with a special brining solution. This solution is designed to help prevent ice from forming, making it easier for snow removal operations to get underway once the precipitation begins to fall. Not only that, but even the post-secondary routes have been treated ahead of time.

A 12-Hour Shift Rotation for Plowing

The dedicated snow removal crews are ready to hit the roads as soon as the white stuff begins to accumulate. NDOT has set up a 12-hour shift system to ensure that there are always teams available to salt and plow the roadways, working diligently until all routes are clear. The goal is to ensure that residents can travel with as minimal disruption as possible.

Efficiency Upgrades to Snow Removal Routes

To improve overall response efficiency, NDOT has made some updates to their snow removal routes, allowing for better coverage across Davidson County. This winter, there are a total of 40 snowplow trucks ready for action. This is a notable increase, with eight more trucks available compared to the earlier snow event in January 2024.

New System for Reporting Snow Removal Requests
