A beautiful winter scene in Nashville with snow covering the ground.
Nashville is set to experience its first significant snowfall of the season, with a winter storm warning in effect. Light snow is expected to start falling tonight, with overnight accumulations ranging from 1 to 4 inches for most areas. The heaviest snowfall, reaching up to 6 inches, may impact regions north of Interstate 40. A cold weather advisory will follow, bringing dangerously low wind chill. Despite the chilly weather, temperatures are projected to rise next week, providing a contrast to the wintery conditions.
Hey Nashville! It looks like winter is finally knocking on our doors, and it’s bringing the snow with it! The National Weather Service has just issued a winter storm warning for parts of Middle Tennessee, so get ready to see a blanket of white soon! The warning is effective from 9 p.m. Tuesday through noon Wednesday for areas north of Interstate 40, while those south of I-40 will be under a winter storm advisory.
If you’re planning on heading out tonight, you might want to reconsider. Light snow is predicted to start falling in Nashville between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m., and it’s expected to get a bit heavier for a few hours before tapering off to some flurries early Wednesday morning. Overall, snowfall across the region could accumulate anywhere from 1″ to 4″, depending on where you are. But, don’t be surprised if some areas to the north experience a little more! For instance, folks in southwest Kentucky and northwest Middle Tennessee might see total snowfall in the range of 4″ to 6″! How exciting is that?
However, that beauty comes with a price. As the snow starts to accumulate, a Cold Weather Advisory will kick in from midnight Thursday through 10 a.m. Thursday. That means many of you could be waking up to dangerously cold wind chill temperatures that could dip below zero. So, if you have to go out, layer up!
For those curious about the day’s weather leading up to the snowstorm, the afternoon is shaping up to be cloudy, and we can expect high temperatures in the upper 30s. Don’t let that fool you, though; roads might still be slick from scattered snow showers already affecting the region. Driving carefully is a must!
After the excitement of the snowstorm, the weather will start to warm up just a tad. Highs for Thursday are expected to struggle to reach the 20s, with nighttime lows dropping into the teens. Brrr! But don’t worry; the weekend looks much better. On Saturday, temperatures are projected to reach 42°F, and by Sunday, we could see highs around 49°F—a nice change!
For those of you dreaming of warmer weather, your wish might just come true! The temperatures are expected to climb next week, with highs reaching 59°F on Monday and even hitting 62°F on Tuesday. Definitely a refreshing change from the current chill!
Whether you plan to cozy up inside with a warm drink or venture out to embrace the snow, make sure to stay safe during the winter weather. Keep those winter coats and mittens handy because it’s going to be a cold, snowy ride! Nashville, are you ready for winter?
