Nashville Faces Rising Concerns After Four Attacks on Women in One Week
In downtown Nashville, the atmosphere has shifted as residents grapple with unsettling news regarding public safety. In less than a week, four women have been attacked—each case described as brutal and completely random. The Attacks
The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department has identified two men, Jacob Harrison Thompson and Deontez Drew, as the suspects behind these violent incidents. Both men have extensive criminal histories and are linked to separate assaults on women that occurred in broad daylight.
On Sunday, Thompson, 32, was arrested following two separate attacks on women just an hour apart. According to the police, Thompson initially tried to force a woman to perform a sex act inside her car. Fortunately, she managed to escape, but the violence didn’t end there. Shortly after, Thompson entered a women’s restroom at the popular Fifth and Broadway area, where he violently assaulted another woman. He reportedly beat her head against the wall and attempted to remove her clothing before bystanders intervened.
Verna Wyatt from Tennessee Voices for Victims expressed her deep concern over these events, stating, “The long-term impact is horrible for them. It’s just so senseless.” Wyatt’s frustration is echoed throughout the community, particularly regarding the fact that Thompson has a criminal record dating back to 2010.

Metro Council member Jacob Kupin has spoken out about the need for community safety. “Women, and everybody, should feel safe in our city. They should feel safe to go to work, to go to Fifth and Broadway, and to walk to their car. And one incident is one too many,” he said.
