MNPD Broadens Citizen Online Reporting Program with Addition of Three New Crime Categories

MNPD Expands Citizen Online Reporting Program

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – MNPD WIDENS THE SCOPE OF THE CITIZEN ONLINE REPORTING PROGRAM

Starting today, May 1st, the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) is expanding its Citizen Online Reporting program. Three new categories of crimes are now included in the online submission system: Retail Scam, Bicycle Theft, and Theft from a Residential Yard.

Retail Scam

This includes any theft of money or merchandise from a retail or merchant location in which a perpetrator uses deceptive or fraudulent means. Examples of this are fraudulent return scams, price tag switching, and money changing scams.

Bicycle Theft

Thefts of bicycles from outside locations, not including enclosed structures or sheds, will now be part of the program. Theft of motorized or electric bikes, or scooters, however, is not catered for in this category. Instances of this kind of theft might include theft from a bike rack or other outdoor areas.

Theft from a Residential Yard

This category pertains to the theft of items from outside a residential location. It does not include the theft of vehicles, items stolen from vehicles, or items stolen from enclosed structures or sheds. If, for instance, outdoor grills, lawn furniture, or garden equipment are stolen from a patio or yard, it can be reported online.

Implications and Instructions

The MNPD is keen on receiving different complaints and reports of criminal activity from citizens. This far, the department has recorded a little over a thousand citizen online incident reports and received more than 3,000 minor crash reports this year alone.

It is important to note that while incidents can be filed online, not all incidents are eligible for online filing. If the type of incident does not appear in the category selection list, citizens are advised to call the Department of Emergency Communications at 615-862-8600 for non-emergencies. Emergencies should always be reported to 911.
