Nashville’s Preservation Society Appoints First Executive Director, David Greider

Nashville’s Preservation Society Welcomes New Executive Director

Ah, lovely Nashville! There’s always something happening in this vibrant city, and now, there’s exciting news coming from the Preservation Society of Nashville (PSN). This local nonprofit has just appointed its very first executive director, David Greider, marking a significant milestone for the organization and a bright new chapter for preserving our beloved city’s heritage.

A Season of New Beginnings

Founded in 2022 by the dynamic duo of Kelleigh Bannen and Colson Horton, the PSN has been tirelessly championing the cause of historic preservation and promoting initiatives that keep Nashville’s rich history alive. The board of directors comprises an impressive lineup of architects, historians, and local business leaders, all dedicated to ensuring that Nashville’s cultural heritage is not only recognized but celebrated.

With more than 15 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, David Greider steps into the role with a robust background that makes him a perfect fit. He holds an MBA in nonprofit management from Lipscomb University and graduated from Tennessee State University. Before this, Greider held leadership roles at notable organizations such as the Center for Nonprofit Management and Nashville Health Care Council. Not one to rest on his laurels, he founded Orange Oak Nonprofit Management in 2023 to support other nonprofits in navigating their paths. Talk about a busy bee!

Community Leadership and Vision

But that’s not all! Greider is also actively involved in the community, serving on the board of the Tennessee Environmental Council, where he chairs its governance committee. He was recognized as a 2012 Nashville Emerging Leaders alumni and previously directed the Young Nonprofit Professionals in the Nashville area. This wealth of experience not only brings expertise but also a passionate understanding of Nashville’s unique character.

In a recent press release, PSN expressed its enthusiasm about Greider’s appointment, stating that he will lead initiatives “with wisdom, purpose, and generosity.” They truly believe he’s the right person to spearhead their goals, especially during a time when Nashville is witnessing rapid growth and development.

Preservation in Action

The mission of the Preservation Society of Nashville has already made waves in the community. Recently, it advocated for the expansion of the Downtown Historic Preservation Overlay, successfully protecting an additional 35 buildings in the financial and entertainment district, including the iconic Printers Alley. This move ensures that Nashville’s history isn’t overshadowed by modernity.

The PSN has also backed several initiatives aiming to preserve historical landmarks like the Belle Meade Theatre, Colemere Manor, Engine Company No. 13 Firehouse, and the Walter Stokes School. Each of these initiatives reflects the organization’s commitment to preserving Nashville’s unique architecture and stories for future generations.

What Lies Ahead for Nashville

Looking ahead, it’s more than just an exciting time for the Preservation Society and David Greider; it’s a chance for the entire Nashville community to get involved in preserving the city’s rich tapestry of history. Whether you’re a history buff or just a local that loves where you live, there’s a role to play in supporting the preservation work that makes Nashville so special.

The community can look forward to more initiatives, events, and opportunities to engage with the city’s historical narrative under Greider’s leadership. It’s a wonderful reminder that while Nashville grows and evolves, its past deserves just as much attention.

So, let’s raise a glass (or a coffee cup!) to David Greider and the Preservation Society of Nashville as they embark on this exciting journey together. Here’s to preserving our unique identity and cherished history for generations to come!
