Nashville, the capital and populous city of Tennessee is under an alert as a pair of severe thunderstorms are predicted to swipe the area starting Thursday afternoon. The National Weather Service has announced that both bouts of thunderstorms are anticipated to cause significant turbulence in the weather systems across Middle Tennessee. The onset of scattered storms will trigger severe weather events followed by an organized line of storm cells moving eastward after 8 p.m.
The local forecast warns of these stormy conditions for the entire Middle Tennessee area. However, there is an elevated risk for areas situated along and west of Interstate 65. Early signs of scattered thunderstorms begun at approximately 3 p.m. As per the National Weather Service’s information, the thunderstorm activities may last till 6 a.m. Moreover, a severe line of thunderstorms is set to propel from the northwest from 8 p.m. through 1 a.m.
Damaging wind gusts reaching 60-70 mph, hail up to the size of quarters, and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning could exacerbate conditions. Despite the tumultuous weather pattern, the tornado threat remains relatively low. The severe weather threat level remains at 2 out of 5 across most of Middle Tennessee. Whereas specific parts of northwest Montgomery County have been categorized at a higher 3 out of 5 risks, signalling an increased possibility of widespread and persistent, intense storms.
The National Weather Service has cautioned about the main uncertainty relating to the coverage of the afternoon’s thunderstorms. They report that if these afternoon storms turn out to be more contained, the second bout of storms forecasted overnight might present an escalated severe weather risk. Nevertheless, this second storm line is expected to weaken as it traverses eastwards across Middle Tennessee.
The upcoming week in Nashville will feature primarily cloudy conditions and intermittent showers. Thursday will gradually become sunny after a mostly cloudy morning with daytime highs nearing 87. Night temperatures are expected to drop to around 61, with showers and thunderstorms likely before midnight, followed by potential showers past midnight. The chance of precipitation stands at 80%, with new rainfall amounts anticipated to range between 1 and 2 inches.
The weekend will stay mostly cloudy, with max temperatures falling to the mid-’60s and night temperatures dropping to the ’40s. Rain chances will emerge mainly before 1 a.m. on Sunday, carrying forward a 30% chance of showers until afternoon. The coming Monday brings the forecast of mostly clear and sunny weather with no significant rain, carrying forward into Tuesday with a sparse 20% chance of showers during the day and night.
