In the early hours of Thursday morning in Nashville, Tennessee, a man was grievously injured after being stabbed at a WeGo bus stop in Edgehill.
The violent altercation reportedly took place around 5 a.m. on Thursday, when Metro police received a distress call about an ongoing attack. Officers responded promptly and arrived on scene at the bus stop located on 12th Avenue South.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a terrifying scene where a man, later identified as Jacob Boswell, was spotted on top of the victim with a knife in his hand, covered in blood. Quick intervention by the officers and bystanders helped to separate the two men.
The victim was gravely injured, with emergency services rushing him to Vanderbilt hospital in critical condition. The quick responses from the onlookers and the officers on the scene may have saved his life.
The attacker, Jacob Boswell, was apprehended at the scene and is currently facing charges of attempted criminal homicide while being held in custody.
This incident follows a string of crimes that have taken place at bus stops over the last month. Just last Friday, a separate incident saw another man being shot next to WeGo Central in downtown Nashville. The previous week saw a bus driver being stabbed by a rider at a different bus stop, on Gallatin Pike, while in another violent episode, a teenager was shot at a bus stop off MLK Jr. Blvd.
Governance is reportedly stepping up efforts to curb these crimes and restore faith in public transport systems. In a public statement, WeGo CEO Steve Bland informed that a review of their security protocols is underway. He further revealed that their team is conducting meetings with Metro Police to discuss and implement enhanced security measures.
The Edgehill community is understandably shaken by these successive incidents. Individuals who rely on public transportation have voiced concerns about their safety, while the affected families are seeking justice for their loved ones. Local authorities are under pressure to act decisively to prevent any repeat of such incidents.
