Swan Ball 2024: Nashville’s Splendid White-Tie Gala
The Grand 62nd Swan Ball
The Swan Ball, Nashville’s grandest white-tie gala, returned for its 62nd year on Saturday, June 1, with a garden party theme at the Cheekwood Estate and Gardens. This elegant ball raises crucial funds to support and preserve the 1930s-era Cheekwood Estate & Gardens. Hundreds of guests, glamorously attired in stunning gowns and sharp suits, attended this annual Nashville society tradition.
Upon entering this year’s event, guests were greeted with a splendid display of both natural and abstract flora, in line with the garden theme. Timeless verdant lawns adorned with a symphony of colorful flowers bordered the long driveway as guests made their way to the front of Nashville’s historic Cheekwood mansion.
Fabulous Garden Party Theme
The doors of the mansion were lavishly decorated with moss-covered elements punctuated with large florals, providing a perfect backdrop for photographers capturing the essence of the event. The grand staircase inside the mansion was draped with seasonal, fragrant flowers, many sourced from local growers. Jim Knestric of the eponymous firm Knestric Design, was the Swan Ball florist, and his creative genius was evident throughout the event.
Appreciation for Local Contributors
The Swan Ball 2024 Chairs, Sally Nesbitt and Carolyn Taylor, expressed their gratitude for all who helped to bring this grand event to life. The intention to provide a fun, fabulous garden party was met with success, triggering reminiscent thoughts of classic Swan Balls of the past. The Chairs’ decision to keep it local was heavily applauded. The floral designer, event planner, featured entertainment, caterer, and the Swan Award recipient were all Tennesseans.
Swan Award Presentation
The coveted Swan Award was presented to Nashvillian and music icon Amy Grant. A multi Grammy and Dove Awards winner, songwriter, and Kennedy Center Honoree, Grant’s contributions extend beyond arts to philanthropy. The award presentation was an emotional moment for the Swan Ball guests, particularly those who grew up with Grant. Grant’s acceptance speech moved many to tears.
Culinary Delight and Entertainment
Dinner was catered by Kristen Winston, who served a delectable menu that perfectly complimented the grandeur of the event. The Grammy Award-winning Old Crow Medicine Show provided featured entertainment. Jessie’s Girls was the late-night dance band, keeping guests on their feet till the wee hours of the morning.
Younger Set Gala in Botanic Hall
The younger set, typically 30-40-year-olds, had their separate space in the Botanic Hall, organized by Katherine Breland and Molly Viola, the Swan Ball Late Party Chairs. But as per tradition, they later joined the Swan Ball crowd for late-night dancing, injecting fresh energy into the event.
Final Thoughts
The Swan Ball 2024 clearly stood proudly on the shoulders of its rich history. Yet, it provided a refreshing take that was nothing short of a grand spectacle, merging the charm of yesteryears with the contemporary vibrancy, thus grace of the times.
